When you have a guitar around someone who has never heard you play, what is the first song you play to show your skills? Mine is the solo to Beast and the Harlot by Avenged Sevenfold.

i try to find something that'll mesh to thier musical preference and what they would think is impressive given im trying to show off. because "impressive" has a different meaning to everyone who hears it

i ask them what they want to hear, and usually i can play at least part of it

I just play Motorbreath by Metallica. I'm not too good at guitar, but most people think that the really fast tremolo picking sounds hard to do (as I did before I learned it).

Whenever someone asks me to show them something, I don't whip out the shredsticles and play the most technically impressive piece I know. Showing off FTL.

Quo Vadis - Dream
Only 'cause it's an instrumental and it's a very beautiful song

I dont like to show off, but for the sake of contributing, a super easy song that looks difficult is Blackbird by the Beatles. It's the same picking pattern and generally on the same two strings, yet people are severely impressed for some reason.

I disagree. Bananas and ass are like peaches and cream.

Whenever anyone asks me to play them something, I always just end up playing whatever I'm learning. Even if I started learning it five minutes ago and I still suck at it. I don't know why I do it, but it happens every single time.
If only summer rain would fall, on the houses and the boulevards
And the sidewalk bagatelles, it's like a dream
With the roar of cars and the lulling of the cafe bars,
The sweetly sleeping sweeping of the Seine...

Playing guitar for me is not to just showcase my skills. Sure, I can just start playing the Yngwie, but no. I play for that empowering feeling you get when you pick up a guitar and finally master something you couldn't before.

I am perfect and never show off even a little bit. I never like to show case my skills on guitar and demonstrate what I have spent hours of my life learning.

Wait nope I am a douche bag...

on acoustic - pardon me - incubus.

Def not that hard but it sounds really pretty... Most emo type songs that have the open two bottom string chords.. (Emily - FFTL, Cute with out the E - TBS, Ever so Sweet - the early november, Best of me - starting line)

NO SHOWING OFF unless you are challenged of course but just stuff that people will generally know and high energy fun stuff to plaay

The tapping breaks in Surfing With The Alien and Satch Boogie combined

Postmortem - Slayer, the bit near the end that's all 16ths sounds great and is easy

Electric Harley House Of Love - Green Jelly, it just plain kicks ass

Twist Of Cain - Danzig, the main riff is pretty insane

How can you even pretend to be "perfect" at guitar. lol

If I try to impress, then just something easy and relaxing like F-Stop Blues by Jack Johnson

I don't do anything special when someone asks me to play something for them, but whenever my one friend who is an excellent guitarist walks by whilst I am playing I immediately play The Clap by Yes because its the only song I can play that he can't .

Other than that I just do whatever I feel like.
#39
I don't show off, really. But when someone asks me to play something difficult, basically asking me to show off, I'll usually play parts of Bloodmeat by Protest the Hero, and sometimes the bits I know of The Divine Suicide of K.

Or I just play Hey There Delilah. Bitches love Hey There Delilah.
