Amp: Line 6 Spider 3 120watt combo

First off let me say, from the very start I've had trouble with this bitch. And its not even 6 months old.

When I first started playing it at anything past 5, it started to make this low rattling shake like noise. Especially anytime I would palmmute. This I could handle, but what happened yesterday sucked some dick... I was jamming with my friend and I smelled something funny... all of a sudden a weird noise came from my amp and then it would not pick up and of my guitar sound. I threw my guitar on his bed and went to my amp. It was smoking out of the thing in the back that says that the amp can get hot here (guess a little too hot). It still turns on and everything, but it's useless now. I was hoping someone could shed some light on both of my problems, mainly the frying amp one....

Thanks again.

It's a digital amp, so there is pretty much no use in trying to get it fixed if you fried the amp.

Well, number one, Spiders are known for being very cheap amps.

Cheap quality, cheap tone, and just cheap all around.
If something fried, it's definitely not worth getting fixed.

^Well, you were investing 400 dollars in a low quality, high wattage amp.
Not sure if wasted is the right word. You just spent unwisely.

Get a spider valve, its a much better line 6.
Thats if you are destined to have a line 6, like most line 6 owners are.
But if you want to try a real amp, I suggest saving up.

I didn't ask for criticism on the amp. I just wanted to know if I'm ****ed out of 400 dollars or not.

dont open up the amp...if you have any chance at getting it fixed....opening the back will fu*k that up.

it may be still under warranty.

I know my peavey head gives 5 year manu. warrty....so you may have it fixed for free?

its worth a shot.

Look it up on their website.

****opening up the amp will void the warranty

My friend had the Spider halfstack. Did the exact same thing. Guy nearly crapped himself when the amp started smoking. He really freaked when the thing burst into flames...

It's no use trying to fix it. God has blessed ye, my child. He has destroyed your crappy Spider, so that you can go get you a nice tube combo.

So I wasted $400???!!!

That's a grapefruit coming over the plate...

Do you have a warranty? A receipt? I'd take it back and see what they can do for you. If they can get it up and running cheap, I'd sell it before it craps out again.
You Don't Need a halfstack.

You Don't Need 100W.

Yeah, look at the warranty.
but, I'm not sure if line 6 offers a very good warranty on their lower quality amps.

Peavey Valveking + Digitech Badmonkey = Insta-budget metal

Trust me, I am in NO way rich. However, I shop smart.

do what?

Look for a used tube amp which can produce tones of that, which may sound metal.
Need anymore info?

Yeah can you vouch for the dude above. Also, add the $400 (from what I'm gonna beat out of MF if they don't refund me) plus $50-$100 thats all I can afford. Can you vouch for the dude who posted above you. I got a digitech metal master pedal too I'm satisfied with it, but thats the only thing I havent got from MF that wasn't ****ed up in one way or another. Any more info would be useful.

No need to be condescending.

How good is the valveking? I'm looking at the 112 and am loving the price. 2 questions

In general, why is it better then the spider, besides the fact its a tube.

Will it be good enough to play shows n ****?

The 112 for shows? What size venues are you planning on playing? It'd be good for small shows, but I'd still recommend the 212 even for that.

It's better than the Spider because it won't explode, fry, burst into flames, disentigrate, and/or warp to another dimension for no reason whatsoever. It sounds better, as well. None of that digital sounding crap like from the Spider.

Man, it's stupid that even at the mention of owning a spider people have to criticize you.

Look at any of the paperwork that came with your amp and look for warranty info. Also, take the receipt back to the store and raise hell.... Something you buy for $400 dollars had better last for more than 6 months.... at least unless it's a bottle of Crystal.

It'll be better than the Line 6. It's got decent metal distortion, but it sounds a lot better with an OD in front of it. And I believe it's 50 watts, which is more than enough to gig with.

Sweet.

And yeah, the valveking will be a huge step up from the Spider. Even if it doesn't feature built in effects.

Ok, I just want to ask if I will be able to get a heavier sound then Metallica out of this. I know I can't get a better sound then them lol, but I like to play black, death, and real heavy ****. Also pedal recommendations would be appreciated, after that I'd say were done with this thread. Thanks to all the people who tried to help me, even though a lot of you were dicks about me owning a spider lol.

Like I said, Valveking and a Badmonkey. Really all you should need for the time being. You can buy like a flanger, wah, and delay and stuff later on.

And about the Spider...
We're seriously just trying to help. The less people that own Spiders, the better off the world is. No offence to anyone.

+1!

Get a 112....its enough for practice with drums (and what id practice with any way..who wants to carry around a 412 everywhere?)

then get a cab and a head later.

unless you are gigging now..then you should try and save for a bigger amp.

there's my 2 cents.

The man only has $400-450.

The VK 112 is a solid option for you. It's a decent metal amp, in that it has a pretty good amount of gain on tap. It'll sound louder than your Spider, too.

And don't whine about being poor. People are goofing on your bad choice of an amp, not your income. The VK is right in the same price range, as are the Roland Cube 60 and Peavey Bandit. All are much better than the low end Line 6.

I guess eventually line 6 will run out of inexperienced people to buy their amps. Music store in my city its all they stock so cant imagine the profit margin on em.
