I just realized that I'm too retarded to sing while playing. I think I lack the coordnation. Is this a common problem?

Practice the song, add some humming, add some singing. Like Bob Dylan said: "I'll know my song well before I start singin'."

dont worry about it. singing and playing is a skill in itself. it's not something that you can usually do automatically... it takes some practice to do, and lots of experience to do well. if you learn the guitar part well enough to be able to play it in your sleep, it makes singing that much easier. haha, singing and playing is actually my strongest point as a guitarist.

It's a difficult skill that not many can master, including me, but don't stop trying. Even if you never "master" it, you will benefit from the experience.

I would argue that everyone can master it, but it takes TIME. Lots of it. A good exercise is to hold a conversation while strumming a simple progression (for example down, down, down, down with constant rhythm). Separating the timing of the notes you are singing from the pattern of the strumming is challenging, but everyone can do it with practice.

playing then talking in a different pattern is VERY challenging. especially if you have to think on the spot about what you want to say. i still dont think i can quite do it. i can certainly sing and play, but talking and playing... now there's a challenge.

You think? I always found it easier because you don't have to concern yourself with pitch or syllable placement. I suppose everyone learns in different ways.
