A majority of the people in the Pit apparently think Hendrix is overrated. So my question for you guys is if Hendrix isnt the greatest to ever live... who is?

And dont give me "theres no such thing as the greatest of all time," because there is. Judging on innovation, skill, and popularity you can rank guitarists with numbers. even though everyones opinion will be different.
#2
You really can't rank... considering there are millions of guitarists that you and I will never hear.
I've decided that my signature is terrible. I'm open to suggestions.

Jesus, I thought this was another sex tape reference.

I don't think he's the best. But he's good.
#8
If you go by his recordings, it's completely ridiculous to think that Hendrix was the best (best being described as most technically proficient) guitarist ever.

Listen to Joe Pass and then seriously tell me it's harder to play Hendrix.

Hendrix is my personal favorite of all time.

Dear Pit!

I give you TinPants, the man has the ability to make something as subjective as 'the greatest' into a objective well known fact. Applaud TinPants, with great enthusiasm. Sacrifice your virgins in the name of TinPants! All hail TinPants, who has brought order to the universe, at last we can have one objective morale code, one opinion of who embodies the pinnacle of guitar mastery, this is one great Pit Monkey!

there are so many guitarists in so many genres that you can't really compare all of them together.. I guess you could choice the best guitarist for a certain genre.. but my personal favourite is Paul Gilbert

EDIT: and just to add: Hendrix was FAR too sloppy to be considered the best.. not even top 50

Okay, being popular does mean something, but not enough to determine who the best guitarist is, because if you aren¡'t at least a bit popular then that means that you can't make music worth listening to.
The best guitarist is that one who has trained very hard to perfect his technique, that one who has trained himself to play as many styles of music possible and be able to play with the dynamics that each style adds. The greatest guitarist is supposed to be able to make creative music unlike other great guitarists, he's the one who can make anything and use his creative forces very well.
That guitarist CANNOT be Hendrix as Hendrix played sloppy, he only played blues (if he wanted to, he couldn't even try making music off of another style). Hendrix used his soul and creativity very well, but he used the most cliched phrases of today that most guitarists use, any guitarist who can play the guitar will be able to play phrases like that, Hendrix was one of the first that's why he became so popular.

In my opinion the best is John Petrucci, he can make music off any style, he adds the correct dynamics for each style he makes, he's damn original (this means wide creativity to be able to do something that others haven't done) when trying to focus on his personal style and Petrucci has literally mastered the guitar.
