Im looking at second hand bass' and someone offered me a Johnson bass(4 strings, two pickups...J bass right?)

if it looks like that. even if it's not the same color of course, then it looks like a jbass knockoff for beginners. rarely they turn out to be pretty good for what they are. but as for the company...never heard of them sorry.

I will point out that i'd be pleasantly surprised by a solid alder body in that price range.

and of course my link gives you an idea on price. it says 199 regular 149 sale.

i've played a few, they are in the league of squier/peavy starters. mostly they come in starter packages. if you really want a good second hand, i'd recommend ebay, you can usually get something far more decent for around the same price. Hohner makes a surprisingly good bass, as does ibanez for a little bit more. if all else fails, go to a squier.

in short no, they are not very good.
