what exactly does a killswitch do? i know it's a noob question but...

i've read stuff like "played __ nps with killswitch, __ nps without". what's that supposed to mean?

A killswitch is a switch that temporarily mutes your output, it can be used to create a flickering effect with tone.

basically a killswitch is an effect where you turn the volume down (completely) on one pickup and normal volume for the other. to use the effect you just flick ur pickup switch between them and you get an on/off sound

It is a little switch that you instal in your guitar that you can repetitivaly flick on and off to mute your sound. the method proposed by the guy above simulates this

Exactly. What FionnRuadh said only works if you have a guitar which has separate volume knobs for both pickups (Les Pauls have this, don't know about other ones).
