I've actually seen one of those Deans in the store! It was like $1000 though (I may be wrong). My total budget is like $1250. So $600 for guitar $500 for amp (need to leave room for tax-filthy money grubbing government )

Well, then, I guess it's out of the question, seeing as the amp itself is pretty expensive.

Id say get a Hellraiser if at all possible, i played one and immediately bought it. I have absolutely no complaints about this guitar, and check out a Peavey Valveking 112, just got one of those and its an amazing amp.

Alder is better than mahogany.

Um.. no? Alder's quite tonally different from Mahogany, but it's by no means better. Alder's snappier and brighter, while Mahogany's deeper and warmer, it's like saying that Single- coils are better than humbuckers.

And I wouldn't even go for an all- tube Marshall in his price range, especially a TSL. There are far superior amps, especially for metal.

ok hold up....all these people worshiping Deans and Schecters are shining to much light on them...i have a Schecter Damien FR and it hasnt impressed me much...ok first nothing with a floyd rose because there a b***h to tune and keep in tune even after you know what your doing. I bought a BC Rich Mockingbird Special X and that thing is amazing. With your price range consider the higher end BC Rich with Rockfield Mafia pickups or swap them with new ones if you want but you should consicer some of the higher end BC Rich guitars they have the metal tone you are looking for and they are very diverse. You probally want an Outlaw or a Metal Master Warlock. As everyone else is saying, get a tube amp with your money man because of my budget im unfortunately confined to a Marshall MG Half but its not as bad as everyones knocking it to be (at least mines not) but get a tube amp definately.

"Well, that's like, your opinion, man."

Alder is better IN MY OPINION. I didn't think I would have to clarify that.

Alright, after more online research, I have this new list (I didn't even consider the guitar as an option).

Dean Black Gold V: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dean-Black-Gold-V-Electric-Guitar?sku=511858

Marshall MG Slant Cab Half Stack. I know there are better options, but for my budget, this is the best I can do-as recommended by the career guitarist/local expert in town (He's been a professional for over 20 years, he must know what he's talking about).

ok - i know i told you earlier kudos for posting a pic but you can stop now. they do take up valuable server space. just copy in the link.

and - i REALLY think you are making a mistake with this amp. i know there are some solid state fans on here and i have one too but don't do it. just because this amp says Marshall means absolutely nothing. again, i have not played thru it but from the 250,000 posts that are out there on it it is a solid state piece of ****.

go back and re-read what some of the TUBE suggestions were.

thanks for your comments earlier, take no offense and good luck. you have to have thick skin to hang out around here

Holy crap this thread is full of fail.
Signatures are overrated.

get a better amp maybe a Valve King or a tiny terror but don't get a mg unless you plan on keeping it bellow 3 on the vol otherwise all of your tone will disappear
The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised

Guitar: Dean Dave V
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dean-Dave-Mustaine-V-VMNTX-Signature-Electric-Guitar?sku=515169

Amp: Used 5150

you can skimp on the guitar and get a good tube amp for an upgrade, and you'll have a good tone that you can further upgrade when you get a good axe. Guitar is mainly a playability and comfort issue, not so much tonal issues.

Alright, I play lead guitar for the band I created, The name: Terminus (Latin for "The end" don't laugh!). Anyways, I can hardly do anything good will my crappy axl fireax and china-brand generic amp. So I got a job caddying (I make a pretty good penny-lot's of rich guys golfin'), and my friend who works there says I should make around $2000 the whole summer. I am putting about $1250 of this toward guitar upgrades/recording equipment and the rest into a college fund. I will be buying from the local guitar store that deals in mostly Dean guitars and Marshall amps (at least for metal). I'm looking for a sound similar to Megadeth, Metallica, Iron Maiden, and Nightwish.

So far, here's what I have so far:

Dean Vendetta Revenge http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Dean-Vendetta-Revenge-Electric-Guitar?sku=515820&src=3WFRWXX&ZYXSEM=0&CAWELAID=147806193

Marshall MG30DFX Combo
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Marshall-MG30DFX-Combo-?sku=483188

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I will not order a guitar online after what happened with my axl. Please keep suggestions for guitar

So let me get this straight, you won't buy online because the last thing you bought was a piece of crap???
It wasn't crap because you bought it online, it was crap because it was crap - anyone here with a few months experience could have told you that. Nothing wrong with buying online as long as it's from a legit retailer and you aren't ordering crap....like that MG. I'm not keeping suggestions to guitar as you've asked because the amp you're looking at is appalling - do yourself a favour and get a Peavey 6505 or something.

In all honesty you should spend the bulk of your money on an amp if you're serious about your band and want to gig in the future.

There are times when people just go onto forums asking for recommendations and ignore everyones comments and end up getting what they were going for originally. God I hate those people.

Damn, I didn't see that video online! I'm definitely not getting any MG after that. Instead, I'll get this and a Dean VMNTX. (Good looker, Supposedly sounds like Razorback DB, I can upgrade it later if I want).

Look at the post above this and below your original. Next time you try to flame, at least do it right. I should probably leave this thread at this point. Three pages of arguing over which amp I chose was the worst does not make for good internet

Almost as bad as the MG

Forget Marshalls unless you're prepared to spend a grand...if you're looking to cheap out at around $5-600 then the Valveking or a Bugera 333 combo are what you should be looking at.
