I just had a thought a while ago.

I was wondering why so many people are fans of horror movies.
I personally hate them because

1. I can't sleep after I watch them
2. I keep turning around thinking there's someone behind me.

and that's all I can think of right now.
I don't mind some horror movies like "1408" which I just watched recently.

I'm asking fans of horror movies why do YOU like them?

n0 flamez plz. I'm asking a legit question.
And yes I've heard of something called an opinion.

Maybe it's because some sick part of our human nature likes to see disgusting, and frightening things, because we are intrigued.

Maybe it's the shock factor. I don't know..

I like them because I can accept that they aren't real, and stuff like that does not happen in real life.

Except the gory ones, which I watch just because of the chance of vomiting. In which case, whoever is near me gets sprayed.

Never happened yet, but there shall come a day when it does.

I can honestly say that I'm the same as you M.O.P.
I dun get "scared" but more paranoid. Zombies mainly.

Don't know why, just do.

I love psychological stuff. 1408 was brilliant, the Saw films are some of my favourites ever.
Etc
Gore is ownage, when used well.

I like wwatching realistic horror movies, far fetched stuff doesnt do it for me. But Saw and Hostel and some Zombie flicks freak me out...but its great.

I'll be watching plenty this summer to pass the time.

Because without scary movies Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath would have never come up with the concept of created a band which makes "scary music" AKA Heavy Metal

Seriously though, i enjoy horror films because by todays modern standards of horror films (Shit) i don't get scared easily and just watch them for the laughs. Some films generally do scare the bejesus outta me, so i watch them for the adreneline.
I'm also a film student so i like to analyse and critize all films i watch.

I saw Prom Night today and laughed through the entire thing. I find the stupid, cheesy, cliche ones the best.

I saw part of Hostel and ran out of the room. Freaked me out so bad. That one was too much for me. *shudders*

I love good ones, but its mainly for the plot, but anything without a very interesting original plot and I hate them.

the pure shock factor is not what gets me. i don't like watching something extremely gross, unless its like zombies but thats because those movies have that apocalyptic element in them. I would rather have something pop out and scare me than watch something get its insides ripped out.

The emotional response is stronger for me. And they're usually exciting.

I don't like most of them. To me, they don't tell any stories, they just pour a gallon of fake blood over your head and hope you are too disgusted to realise how poorly written and thought out the movie actually was.

I like some horror movies though. Silent Hill I liked, and 1408 was alright. And I enjoy horror games like Resident Evil and Condemned.

The first 45 minutes or so are excellent.

Psychological Horrors are some of the best movies I've ever seen. I do like some zombie movies though (the ones that don't rape the concept) and occasionally slasher and gore films.
A lot of the best seem to be foreign horror like Ju-On: The Grudge, Ringu, The Eye, [REC], etc. And every so often some Troma, or something like Reanimator.
No idea why I love them so much though.

same reason why I like roller coasters.

To me rollercoasters are completely different to horrors.
I'm not sure why but i'm more scared of horrors than i'm scared of rollercoasters.
Rollercoaster malfunctions = Possible death.
Watching horror = Just getting scared.

I haven't actually seen a scary movie that scared me.

Everyone said SAW was scary. I was lolling when i saw it.
Apparently wolf creek is scary but i haven't seen it yet.

I dont find gruesome stuff scary. At all... But i hate screamers.
