I'm currently looking to buy a quality tube amp for gigging and whatnot. I want a classic rock, hard rock tone, something like led zeppelin or AC/DC, but i also play some metal and modern/alternative rock. nice sparkly, crisp cleans would be nice as well

Which Would be better for that kind of sound, the Traynor YCV50 Blue or the Peavey Classic 30?
Are there any other amps i should consider?

I think the Traynor would be better for some higher gain stuff. More like a Marshall, so to speak.
The Classic series is more like an AC30 IMO.

right Metallica is a given. Personally I like to pretend the bus exploded and killed them all in '86.

^Erm... sure?
I know that the C30, when cranked, gives an AC30 vibe off (to my ears atleast).
Not if the YCV50 matches up with the JCM800, but it does sound a bit more like a marshall than a classic.

i've heard that the ycv50 has a marshall-like distortion tone, while it has a fender-like clean sound

That's a safe guess.
I would imagine that if you were to crank the clean channel, it'd sound more like a JTM.

I haven't tried those models, but the 1975 Peavey Classic I have has a quite fuzzy overdrive, and a maybe 1980's Traynor 50W combo I've tried has a more Marshall-y crunch when cranked.

Mmm. Sorry to be an ass, but aren't there enough of these threads? All I see on GG&A these days is Classic 30/50, Traynor, and all the rest of those amps...
