every time i try to tap during a solo, you cant even hear it, how should i set up my amp and guitar so that i can. i dont wat to put up the volume because then when i normally play its too high.

It's most likely a technique thing, if you haven't been tapping long, you probably need to practise more so that your taps are stronger and clearer. If you're tapping right, you shouldn't need a compressor

try tapping with a pick instead of your finger. it makes it louder but it's not considered the "proper" method of tapping. but who cares.
