Okay, so I heard today (from my guitar teacher) that the company that ships Gibsons and Epiphones will no longer be shipping to the UK. I also remember playing an Epi Dot in Merchant City Music, Glasgow and the assistant telling me there won't be any in at christmas time, as they're not stockng Epiphones anymore. I thought this might just be the shop, but maybe not? I couldn't find anything on wiki on this. Anyone know any more details about this? Thanks.

Good for them. Gibsons are overpriced and overrated, and Epiphones are overpriced knockoffs.

I don't think they'd want to miss out on so much cash like that. Maybe we just don't buy that many Gibsons.

Rosetti stopped being their distributor since Gibsons are going to be their own importer I believe. You'll still get them. But they now can choose their stores more easily, they may drop some, who knows.

Meh. I can take them or leave them.

I won't be caught paying £1200 for what is essentially a jazzed up starter guitar with the Gibson logo on the headstock.

They just change the company that ships them lol. There an international company, you really think they'll stop sending them to the UK just because one shipping company backs out. THey probably send them over through multiple companys anyways.

That biegn said Gibson are overrated.

Just an opinion, but I think the more modern guitar companies are manufacturing guitars that rival, and in many cases surpass gibson for a fraction of the cost, with more desirable features on their standard models.

You can get Yamahas and ESPs for about 3/4 of the price of a Gibson LP Standard and they are pretty equal imo.
Strange thing is that the Gibson 'faded' models as well as the LP Classic cost way less than most Standard LPs but are hardly worse. Another strange thing is that some of the Standards (namely the ebony ones) are available for 1700€, while others cost 2200€ or more and there's no difference between the guitars except for the finish.
Gibson can be confusing sometimes. Still, I'm going to get an LP Classic (1666€, if anyone cares). Those definitely are worth their money, just like most SGs, imo.

PRS, ESP, Ibanez, Schecter, Framus, plenty.

My opinion, like I said. Some people are willing to pay the Gibson price tag, fair enough if you've got the money.

Have you played a Gibson? Have you even seen one? They're not starter guitars, they're made of highest quality and for professionals.
I'm a Fender man too. I quite like the humbucker sound in guitars, but not when I play them though.

^PRS and Framus aren't exactly cheap to begin with though and comparable Ibanez guitars are even more expensive. The new AR300RE costs about 2.5 grand. RGs are nicely cheap though.

Hmm, I'm a bit annoyed about this "exclusive store" thing, as not only will the guitars be harder to find but also they will most likely be placed at list pricing, which sucks.

I don't care so much about Gibsons not being avilable (I picked up mine a couple of months ago and couldn't be happier ) but I had my eye on an Epi Casino so I'm a bit miffed about it, considering I was going to start saving for it soon
#22
Is this only a problem with the UK, or is it international? If not, you can still order those guitars from thomann.de. I know most people prefer to play what they buy first, but seeing as you can return a guitar to thomann within a month, you're unlikely to get scammed.
#23
Yeah, actually I saw a Casino with a Bigsby from Thomann that I had been considering and can't find anywhere else, and I've never had problems ordering from them before (albeit on relatively small items compared to a guitar) so that would be wrth a shot...but I still am skeptical about ordering a guitar I've never seen
#24
I dunno, but sound control is going down the hole. Friend of mine's brother owns one of the shops and they've just been giving **** away in a way they can't afford, and it's come back to bite them on the arse.

When it comes to LP Standards, yes, but not if you're talking about the LP Classic or LP Faded.

But hey, each to their own.
I'll take a Panthera Studio Custom any day. But yeah, personal preference, I know mine has shifted a lot over the years.

Sure they're good guitars, but they're definitely not worth over 1 grand.
#28
I used to be a Gibson fan. Then one day I actually tried a Gibbo Les Paul. It wasn't bad, as such. But for a grand and a half's worth of guitar, I was definitely expecting a lot more.

The same day, I saw a second hand Yamaha SG going for £400. I played it, loved it, but never bought it. That I regret to this very day.

'Gibson' is not exactly a rare name. It could be a totally unrelated company.

With the exact same logo? Seems a pretty far out chance.

EDIT: I checked this website: http://www.gibsoneurope.com/smartsite.dws?id=10776 and it confirms my suspicions.

This is gonna be like in the 50's and 60's when there were no Gibsons in the UK.

Although Keith Richards and Jimmy Page already have their Gibsons this time 'round.

Like every guitar, finding a decent one from ANY brand is a matter of effort and luck on your part. But IMO, the difference in quality of a Gibson and an Epiphone is almost night and day. You'll notice it on the small details, especially in terms of durability, quality of finish, and even the responsiveness of the pickups - my friend, who's been a believer in active pickups for years, was surprised at how much definition the Gibson PAFs had. Ultimately, it's like having to choose between a Cadillac and a Toyota - both do their jobs really well, but you get what you pay for. If your needs are fairly spartan, Epis (and most other guitars in their class) will do.

how much is 15,000 PHP? I didn't know they played guitar in the Phillipines. I thought they played ukelele or something.

Because, of course, we're too far away from places with guitars and all that stuff so we play ukelele...

I love my gibson but i wouldn't buy another one as they all feel and sound the same.

Gibson/Epiphone had pulled out of South Africa as well. We haven't been able to get any, unless imported for any of our customers since November.

I don't know why, but the general management of Gibson have decided to pull out of quite a few countries. Apparently they saw South Africa as "unprofitable", although considering how many people come to the shop and ask for Gibson guitars, I cannot see how this is so.
They come in, ask for Gibson, and end up leaving with a Paul Reed Smith (which I think is a better guitar).
We want to provide Gibson though, it's plain customer service.
They're supposed to come back into South Africa by the end of May though, so we'll see then.
Otherwise they're only pulling out of some countries, and then again, only for a few months. So I wouldn't worry.

On another note, Guitars are subjective. Some people like Gibson, some don't. Accept other's opinions.
