Have you ever actually heard any grindcore? I'd suggest you compare Killswitch Engage with some:

Pig Destroyer
Orchid
Benumb
Nasum

Seriously, j00 = ep1c ph41l.
No gods, no countries, no masters.
More guitar, less Ultimate-Guitar.
Be Serious.

I know, isn't it great! Absolutely LOVE that chord.

I'm aware. They quite certainly fit into both emo and grindcore. Short, blasting, chaotic, arty grindcore with occasionally introspective lyrics.
No gods, no countries, no masters.
More guitar, less Ultimate-Guitar.

I've seen mathcore appear a lot in this thread. When ever I hear the word mathcore I think of some brutal riff in drop A while the singer is growling the quadratic formula.

It is. It's a subgenre of metal that is generally disliked on UG.

In my opinion, a lot of nu-metal (Like Limp Bizkit) is just overly angsty and angry hip-hop. I would consider KoRn to be something like alt.metal or something, in my opinion, they had a bit of creativity. Yes, that statement was biased by the fact that I secretly listen to KoRn in shame. :P

Anyways, on topic, Behold... The arctopus and Voivod are 2 very great bands that use dissonance a lot. Personally, my favorite dissonant chord is a minor second, like:

e|---|
B|---|
G|-5|
D|-9|
A|---|
E|---|

That my friends is a flat second interval.

If you want dissonance just stick to your good 'ole flat second, flat fifth and major ninths and their extended derivatives.

Hooray for stacked diminished fifths!

The old flat second is still my favorite diad but I'm still trying to find a different one...

i thought they were called tritones?
(i don't know much theory)

Tritone = a diminished 5th ontop of a dimished 5th ontop of the root note.

A diminished chord contains a diminished fifth interval, an interval also called tritone, because one note is three tones apart from the other. This interval is not inversable, so it's always three tones apart.

And a minor second is an interval, not a chord.

How the hell did this get bumped?

Gorguts, Cephalic Carnage, Pig Destroyer, Ministry, Candiria(They're Metal influenced), Dillinger Escape Plan(Mathcore), Eyehategod, Cryptopsy, Electric Wizard, Meshuggah, Beneath The Massacre, Braindrill, Kreator, Morbid Saint, Annihilator(What I heard sounded pretty dissonant).

All those bands I listed above make pretty wide use of dissonance.
I realized I was god when I prayed and saw that I was talking to myself.

If you want dissonance listen to the chord structure of this album. It's totally heinous.

Well, listen to Five Star Prison Cell and see for yourself.

I'm talking about the guitar and drumming here. The vocals are more experimental than Meshuggah.

Thats because Adam can't sing and generally likes to decidedly odd vocal lines, i mean in 'brutal australia' he starts going on about making star wars noises and voices like he did as a child.
I am me. Live with it.
