is anyone doing any?! i am seriously struggling, especially with my tech; it's just so boring.

anyway, is anyone doing any? if so, what's your method?

I'm reading up Philosophy and History and working my ass off at Maths with past papers and such. It's not hard if you got the motivation.

EDIT: I'm not saying revision is easy mind. I'm just saying it's not hard to continue to revise if you know what you want. I've been through a lot of crap this year only to realise the only thing I actually want is good grades and to get to Uni, so I'm working for it. I'm panicing mind, as I've dropped one subject and I am failing another.

I should, but I'm not because I have no motivation.

I try to treat my day as a regular working day.
For example on a regular day I might wake up at 7:40 or so, get to lectures for 9, and have lectures from 9 til 12. Eat lunch, lectures from 13:00 or 13:30 til about 16:00.

So in all the time I would be at lectures, I revise. Then I can enjoy my evening.

Nah no point..

I cba with revising, I'd rather play my guitar.

No point? I'm working bloody hard at the moment to get a D in Maths so I can continue it at A2 and redo all my papers to get myself up to a C

Yeah man, have GCSEs next week! But just cannot get down to revsising! So boring and I know pretty much all I have to know now. Tis pointless!

But I have made these big A2 flip chart paper revision posters which currently cover my room, they help alot actually

Yeah, working my ass off at chemistry, cos I'm failing and need a C or a D to get into uni! And revising biology and geology. Need to get a B or C in bio, and an A at geology!

I should be revising the role of all the leading nazi's for a2 history, and revising my other subjects. Its just that my chair is too comfortable for me to want to leave.

What I do is:

- Get yourself to a library or somewhere else where there are no distractions. Other people working around you also helps because it gives you some motivation to do some work, as it feels a bit daft to be pissing about when everyone around you is slaving away
- Consolidate what you have to learn into short note forms. For each of my modules/chapters, I took down roughly 2-4 pages of A4 notes, and used them to continue my understanding after I'd really read up on the subject from my textbook and lecture slides.
- Set yourself a time limit. If you start studying at 1pm, say to yourself you won't finish until 4.

Works for me anyway.

AS exams coming up. I have to memorise the Tempest by...3 weeks time. I can't. I've read the whole thing so many times, and I still can't quote from memory. Yuck.

If you can describe the part well enough you don't need to quote. Try watching the Derek Jarman film that'll help (Disclaimer: very high amount of male nudity, Caliban is very camp and there are dwarves in makeup).

You should be doing revising, it may be boring but its needed to get somewhere in your exams.

I'm in the middle of exams right now. But mine are kind of pointless...

In maths I filled in 3 questions out of about 20 in the first paper But second one was ok

Others have been fine. I just write notes from all my booklets and read them over and over.

And if i get 7 As I'm promised a new guitar (But that's not going to happen, because of maths )

What exams are you doing?

im doing exams right now - the best way i find to revise, is to do a past paper, pinpoint what you didnt get marks in, go over, and then try answering the questions again

i SHOULD be revising for my GCSEs right now, but i keep getting distracted - fear i might fail, even though im a freaking A* student... underachievement ftw!
Anyone got any good ideas for motivating ones self?

well you are going to fail tbh if you don't clean up your act now, honest to god people who shelf stack for a living did more work than you at your age. Get of your arse and work wanker.

Need to start revision for 1st year medicine. Currently finishing up coursework so should be starting revision tonight or tomorrow at latest. Got anatomy practical in 10 days. So freaking out about it as need to know a multitude of names and how they relate to one another. Might consider buying the Grays flash cards as apparently may be good for revision and def need to go take out an atlas from the library as it's on real specimen so easier to see from photos than diagrams.

Other than promising yourself something after you finish the exams, there isn't much else to motivate yourself with. I'm trying to revise for my uni physics exams, but it's not really happening. Just don't try and do too much in one day, and take breaks every hour or so. Make sure you have plenty of non-alcholic drinks to hand as well.

What pisses me off the most about school is the overall messed up education system... i honestly do not know WHY people spend years taking into account tons of facts, information etc. just to be marked on the results of an hours/2 hours timed test... it pisses me off because even the smartest people could mess up, and it just doesnt make sense.

All timed tests are in my eyes, are a simple regurgitation of information - but what if people cant actually throw up their knowledge in such a stressfull, pressured situation?

Enter coursework.

Also, this 'regurgitation' is not just writing down facts, it's a test to see if you understand what you're learning.

Your doing GCSE's its alot more analytical at a level less facts more your interpretation of them.

But I agree, I'd rather some form of unbaised internal assessment than exams.

I should be doing some right now. I've been going an hour on computing, which is making me want to die cos I'm going to get an E at best. I have computing, English Language and Psychology exams all on the same day (a week on Friday), and only one exam (Music) in the whole of study leave, so I'm having to revise like hell. It's not nice.

But if you really think about it, exams themselves take up a pretty high amount percentage overall... which is why coursework is a brilliant way of showing understanding without being pressured.
And, to be honest, if you truly think about it, understanding is the major role played throughout exams, its just the way in which understanding can get lost when you've got about 10 subjects to revise for, plus the components, you (or in my case) end up with about 20 exams to sit. Now, what i was trying to convey the first time round was how people that understand everything could easily slip up or freeze up and just forget when in the exam - i know this from my mocks, where i had revised for a couple of weeks straight but i froze up pretty much every question... i got mostly Cs and Bs but i know i could've done better

EDIT... safe to say exams SUCK major balls...

Well I'm in my third year at high school, and my standard grades are next year. I suppose the exams I'm having are just to prepare me and what not.

man, that does freaking suck... i thought you get coursework for A2... lol my bad - so 100% of your grade is based on your exams?
#36
I've got my Spanish oral on Thursday, I've learnt 47 questions, and I've got about 53 left to learn.

The bad thing is though, I remember them as I revise them, then forget them all when I look at them again.
