Not to be an ass but there is a sweep picking thread on the first page about half way down the page.

<_<

I ll answer your questions:

1. To get to an acceptable speed, a good few months. To get to good technique.. .Still working on it.

2. Learn from the the thread in my sig or by looking for the same thread in this forum.

3. With a metronone slowly and gradually building speed.

4. That question is dependent on how you learn. Could take you a few months, could take you years. The more efficient your practice is, the better you become.

It took me about 3 days of hard work to learn the sweep technique but I've been playing for 21 years and I know what it takes for me to learn new things. The Biggest thing to concentrate on is the picking hand. While practicing the technique, you really have to concentrate on making a solid, fluid motion down and then up while moving even very slowly. Grip the pick firmly but let it have just a little give. This was the first big pattern I used.

Remember to really hammer on the 15th fret of the 1 st string to make it ring. Practice very very slowly and build up speed as you can. DO NOT GIVE UP!!!
Don't be concerned with how long it takes to learn it. You'll get it when you get it, just keep practicing!

Edit: Oh yeah, practice this without an amp. After you get to a good speed, then plug in the amp. When you hear yourself do it clean it will blow your mind!

i dont recommend beginners do that because they should be concetrating on getting every note clean and pronounced even with a distorted sound, especially with that finer roll
