I bought a Vandoren jazz mouthpiece for my bass clarinet... I guess it's pretty similar to the sax mouthpiece set up. I preferred it over the standard one I had been using.

lmao i have a bundy series 2 that we got for an EXTREMELY good deal back when i was in 7th grade, but i dont play it very much. i play my friends sax ( my mouthpiece ). its a yamaha yas475 intermediate. my parents saved money so when i go to college for music they said they would buy me pretty much whichever sax i want as long as its not one of the 10k and up ones (the few that there are)

i use size 2.5 vandoren zz reeds and a vandoren optimum ligature for jazz.

^ i concure (sp?) cashew

the meyer 5 jazz mouthpiece is the best sounding mouthpiece for jazz i have ever heard, and its hard rubber. only problem is the only way you can get one now is through ebay, check out the price on one ive been watching now.

i have a 65 silverplated Mark VI thats been my main alto for my main sax days, and my tenor for jazz was a 62 mark Vi. my classical has been a newer selmer III. On most jazz setups i use metal otto link 5* mouthpiece, with a C* taking the majority of classical.
#17
oh and the plastic reeds have always been total crap for me. didnt feel right in the overblown and altissimo range

yeah i didnt like it too much.

synthetic reeds are kinda cool, $20 bucks each but they last about 4-5 months and dont require moisture

i guess the synthetic would be good for a marching situation, but i never marched, and was always too concentrated on tone(and you CAN be too concentrated on tone)
#20
lol

yeah they are great for marching band

those plasticover reeds are suposed to be good for marching band but they suck.

Selmer C*s are some of the best mouthpieces on the market.

...but not for jazz.

+1

And as far as the plastic reeds, great for marching band...they're much louder. But it's like using an MG Halfstack instead of a 5W tube amp
Nope, no sig here.

try the rousseau's and the meyers. they're good and they run cheap
