Basically, it was about an extremely cynical woman, not being to understand the concepts of casual sex, homosexuality or cottaging.

They had a man on about halfway through who fancies children. Optimum age being around 8.

I know, he sounds messed up, but after watching the interview with him, I thought he was alright. He had never and would never get into a relationship with a child because he doesn't want to break the law, and he would never have sexual intercourse if he did.

The woman just repeatedly told him he was ****ed up and needed help.

Obviously, children are unable to consent and shouldn't get into a relationship with an adult, but you have to understand that some people think this way. It's only a preference, and I think, unless they have intentions to commit a crime (abduction, statutory rape or viewing child pornography) it's completely wrong to lock them up or force them to receive psychological help, like the program suggested.

What do you think?

I wouldn't lock someone like that up, but I wouldn't be against trying to get him some help, and possibly trying to change his views. Someone might get hurt.

Most people with that "preference" are only revealed after they commit a crime anyway.

There aren't many people who go around holding a sign that says "I like little boys/girls"

I do hope they get help somehow before they commit a crime though.

They can't lock people up for thinking things, because I mean come on, how many times have you thought about killing people you hate or something, even though you'd never, ever, ever even consider it really.

It's the same train of thought as the whole violent video game causes violence, thinking about it doesn't mean you're gonna do it.

the biggest problem with this is that he can sit there and say he won't ever do anything like that to a child, but if he ever would do such a thing the trauma for that poor child would most likely be immense.

but you can't force him into treatment or whatever if he never comitted any wrong doings. it would be in everybodys, and his own too obviously, best interest if he would get some sort of counseling to deal with this without ever feeling the need to "releasing" his urges.
#22
that is a really touchy subject with me... Personally i woudl really lock him up if he showed signs of possibly doing it in the future. But then there is the chance that he has already done it, so i might want to lock him up. Granted he announced that he likes children on TV, so people know to avoid him now. But still... there is this thing in the back of my mind saying he will do something with a child. Its an urge he has.

I dont know, this is a confusing topic. Sorry if my post doesnt make any sense. I had like 4 different things going through my head.

I'm not condoning pedophilia or anything but your last statement bothers me. Whats to say what we call normal is always right? Just because society deems something as normal doesn't mean they are right. Most of society think that listening to rap/dance/indie music is normal and listening to metal is weird but it isn't is it? The theory of utilitarianism isn't always correct.

They should only really be punished if they commit the crime.

My thoughts. If they realise it's wrong and they can fight the urge to watch child pornography or seduce children those people should be left alone.

its nature nurture really. Homosexuals say they can't help their feelings and paedophiles are the same. Its totally wrong in my eyes but some people can't help it...i suppose we can't really choose who we are, we are just us. And for the people bein immature, just open ure mind. This guy is tryin to suggest something intellectual, if it isn't in your capacity to understand what's bein said then don't reply
