D'Addario makes pups? I'd get duncans because Emgs sound real sterile.

Not true. David gilmour doesn't sound sterile.

Well, I just dumped the two EMG 81's that were in my ESP for a Duncan Distortion and SH-2 Jazz. So, I'm a bit biased, but yeah I'd pick the Duncans.

ell, since you have a SS amp i'd go with passive duncans.

New amp. Get rid of your MG before you even think about getting new pickups.

+1

A pickup swap is a long way off being even remotely necessary.

Get yourself a small tube combo, then assess what you need in a pickup.

+1 to get a new amp first

And out of EMGs, Duncans and Dimarzios, I'd say BKPs. Preferably Warpigs.

But for the price of two warpigs you could get yourself a decent low end amp, which would improve your sound alot more than the pups.

So get a new amp.

Yes they are, people who say they're not have never played a decent amp. Its the truth, I owned one for ages, it only looks cool, thats it.

They've got horrible cleans, and the distortion sounds like crap.
the only way they sound good is if you pump a distortion pedal through it, metal muff in my case, sounded alright, but kinda defeats the point of decent pickups if you just stick loads of distortion on.

*edit* i will contribute to the thread.

Go for a seymour duncan SH-6 once you've got a decent amp, can get one before if you want, but you won't feel the benefit.
EMG's are optimum for metal, but through an SS amp, sound horrid. but through a high gain tube amp, sound amazing, perfect for metal

It's not about how "horribal" they are, it's about how little a pickup swap will make a difference with that amp. They're NOT a good amp, no matter you may think. If you don't like your tone, your pickups are NOT the root of the problem.
