well i have been wanting to upgrade from my past 2 acoustics and get something with a SOLID TOP--- for a long time! with that said i walked in to elderly instruments today to check out some guitars with just the intention of looking around... i played several taks/blueridge's/alveraze's/fenders/yamaha's the whole shibang... and then i came to the seagull's... i have been interested in these for a long time and i finally got to play a couple... i was blown away.. and i love the sound of cedar... of all the guitars i played nothing really jumped out as far as sound/tone did as the s6 entourage.. its definately an underpriced guitar- i was sold after strumming for a couple mns ... so heres the breakdown

Seagull S6 Entourage

Solid Cedar Top

Wild Cherry back & sides

$285 with a kapo and strings out the door

Looks/fit/finish: 10 - the cherry back & sides is gorgeous... not a flaw anywhere on the guitar out of the box

playability: 8.5 - action is slightly high for my liking and im sure alot of others aswel but still good and verry playable out of the box, quick fix- the neck is a little wide wich i like which makes for bigger hands

sound/tone: 10 - for the price you cant beat it, alot of ppl say that but for the s6 its true... you can get down and strum hard and not miss a beat, it holds up all over... pick away! i am beginning to think this guitar is made to be finger picked because it sounds amazing when you get down and do some classical or whatever type shizy..

Projection: 10 - this thing is loud like a dreadnought should be, nuff said

overall: this is a great value and should not be overlooked by anyone looking to spend around 300 on an acoustic- i love this guitar right now and will love even more when i get it set it up for my likings, i also plan on installing some sort of pickup or something but i havent decided on what one or whatever so that'll come later....

well that was kindof a half-assed review but i just wanted to put it out incase if anyone was wondering about these seagull's....

also since i just got the guitar like 12 hrs ago ill post more later with some additional thoughts about the dread---

Seagull definietely makes a fine product. I got an S6 Original and.... it's just too amazing. Imo, it's better than any of those crazy high-priced acoustics. Better tone, playability, and I just love the look of mine.

Everyone should at least try one of those things.

Heh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so. You should put a bone saddle on it; it's like night and day.
Sincerely, Chad.

ya i plan on addressing that and some new pins... i put some sp mediums on it to start off but i think i may switch to lights for this baby... not sure tho.. its so crazy tho the difference a well built guitar w/a solid top sounds compared to one without, i really cant stop playing this lol

I think that bone bridge pins with a fax tortoise inlay, or maybe faux tortoise pins would look great with that finish.
Sincerely, Chad.

mm... i heard that mediums break in guitars faster. or so i heard from the salesman who sold me my martin. he said that they put mediums on to help break in the guitar, and to change to lights after about a year.

anyway, the Seagull is definitely a great buy. my brother has one and it sounds quite good for what he paid.

I recently bought a Seagull M6-Gloss. (Came to about $412 US) I tend to agree with all of your observations. I took mine in to have a buzzing looked at. My luthier adjusted the truss rod a bit, raising the action. That fixed it. Now, however, with new strings, it seems a little harder to play. I may have the shop drop the action just a bit to see if that will help the playability without reintroducing the buzz.

Otherwise, Seagull's quality just fine. The gloss finish is much more attractive to me than the matte finish. The mahogany body has a nice warm sound, but is still pretty bright. And you're absolutely right about it projecting! Wow, I wonder if I'm buggin' the neighbors some evenings.

FWIW, the Art and Lutherie is nearly as good as the Seagull, for a considerably smaller investment.

Congrats on the new guitar. I have an Entourage Mini Jumbo, and it's a great guitar. It looks awesome too.

I have the same Entourage s6, i have the rustic finish though. I love this guitar. Ive been playing it for almost a year (its my first guitar). Its been great to learn on, and I prefer it over any of the guitars my friends own. Your are correct about it sounding much better than what it costs. But after a year, I'm looking to move onto a higher quality instrument. I'm really interested some of the top quality Taks, i really want the same one Garth Brooks plays.
