Hi guys..
I'm trying Economy Picking..
In the lessons section there is a good explanation for that picking style..
I really appreciate the author of that..
Although, I have a little problem..

In that lesson strokes shown up like this:

d u d d u d d u d d u d d u d d u d
E|-------------------------------0-0-0-|
B|-------------------------0-0-0-------|
G|-------------------0-0-0-------------|
D|-------------0-0-0-------------------|
A|-------0-0-0-------------------------|
E|-0-0-0-------------------------------|

3 notes per sting.. And economy picking goes with it.. (or 5)
The lesson explains 4 or odd numbers like this could be played with hammer and pulls..

Is there any other way to do this clearly? Without hammer or pulls?

E|-2-3-4-5------------------------|
B|-----------3-4-5-2--------------|

sorry this post was wrong, it's been edited

I thought for a second that it was ascending the strings not descending. Although duduududuu would work, I would prefer to use plain old ududududu for 4 note per string patterns, technically alternate picking although it still starts each new string with an upstroke (descending) or down stroke (ascending)

Economy picking would be what mudhippy described tho not everybody finds that the best way to pick the consecutive up strokes work like a mini sweep
Shut up and play your guitar!

A good piece to learn economy picking would be anything based on just one string. Something like the bass riff in Muse's Hysteria.

For moving between strings a great one is the intro to Metallica's "The Call of Kutulu". It much easier play with the fingers, and quite tricky to play with a pick. Master that and you'll probably have a good hand at economy picking.
Once you master it you never look back, I actually have to stop and think to play with one side of the pick.
Good Luck!

u mean alternate???? economy picking would be the use of minimum movement to reach the next string... alternate picking would be the use of minimum movement to reach the next pick.......slight difference.... try something over alot of strings..... we heave a goood collection of lessons on the main site check them out...............

one riff goes

-----------------------------------------4-5-6--------
---------------------------------4-5-6----------------
------------------------4-6-5-------------------------
----------------4-5-6---------------------------------
---------4-5-6----------------------------------------
-4-5-6------------------------------------------------
d u d d u d d u d d u d d u d d u d

economy that for now and then move on....

d = downstroke u = upstroke

i myself am not proficient at it though :P just began some time back

To be honest I never knew what the difference between them was.....
