Although i`ve just begun playing eventually i`ll up grade my guitar and wondered if there`s a big difference between say a gibson sg and a copy , is it really worth the extra dosh?

Gibsons are generally overrated and overpriced, but a Gibson SG Standard is great compared to an Epiphone G-310 or G-400, and much better than no-name copies. Though if you want to play metal, the ESP Vipers are probably better.

I believe personally that there is, the real sg will most likely last longer in terms of quality and hardware, as through a few years the copy is most likely going to start getting outdated and you will have to change parts on it etc. Now I just speak in general, I just think if you get the real thing chances are you are going to like the sound it has for a lot longer than the copy. Which is why I think you see a lot more real gibsons from like the 60's with their original hardware, still being played because of the sound they produce, than copys.

ur an idiot. gibsons are NOT overrated...hence the reason 80% of rock bands in the past 20 years use them...

I find that almost any american made guitar is a bit overrated. Many times they're just over charging you for some better hardware. As long as the guitar's wood is good, you can always upgrade the hardware to exactly what you want.

Gibsons in particular seem to suffer from this, though I have to say the fenders that I love also suffer.
I don't give a shit if you listen to me or not

though epiphone's quality control isn't great, if you're lucky you can get a guitar that with a pickup swap will sound just as good, and play almost as good, for a fraction of the price. also, with the first statement, you just proved the point you were arguing against.
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.

Thanks for all the replies you just comfirmed what i already thought , my only doubt was i might possibly be paying for the name and it was a case of the savings in cost were due to the hardware fitted on a copy, better start saving now then

I'm hearing a steady *thump thump* from the people above me and I need some porno grooves to play on my bass to give them some background music. Any ideas?

The irony of that second line after your first statement is golden.
