Is there a reason why the springs are the way they are in the pictures. Steve Vai, is my second favorite whammy bar player,

Is there an advantage to that whammy bar configutarion?

i dont know if This is the reason, but on most of Steves guitars he has an Old Ibanez part they dont make any more that does something to the bar that keeps it in tune better or something. I read it on Vai.com so your answer should probobly be in there.
