And I'm going back to thinking about a small recording setup. I'm going to be working for the summer, and that means money.

My main question is about computer interfaces.

I will be buying a Shure SM57 mic (any better suggestions for the price, for guitar?), and most likely an ART Tube MP Mic Preamp Studio (whatever the hell it's called, the $30 one on MF).

My question, is a Firewire card and interface going to be superior to a USB2.0 interface? As in I plug the mic pre into this thing and then into the PC. And suggestions for an inexpensive, reliable interface would be helpful.

Thanks

You won't need a preamp if you get an interface, and since you're only doing guitar, there's no real difference between Firewire and USB.

That has an Art preamp and USB interface.

Ahhh that looks like a good idea. Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Would http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-TubeMP-USB-Single-Channel-Tube-PreAmp-with-USB-Output?sku=180647

be similar/a good choice?

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ART-USB-Dual-Pre?sku=703092 <- the other one on MF

Double EDIT: Well funny that. Theres one of the ones that I linked to on Craigslist for $70. Good/bad idea/deal?
Triple EDIT: Well apparently theres a USB and non-USB version to that one I linked to. I mailed the guy on CL to find out chich he is selling.

It's identical. I find Sweetwater to be more reliable and speedier on deliveries, so I linked to them.

If you don't mind only having one input at a time, it's no big deal. It'll be handy when you do vocals thanks to the limiter.

Good idea. Let me know. Better yet, ask for a photo of the rear, and post it up here, it needs to look like this:
