I was listening to the radioo the other day, and Joan Jett's version of the song came on, and I immediately thought "Oh God". I starting listening to the guitar and I don't think I've ever heard such a good, rich, rock tone. Does anybody know what gear it was recorded on?

Try Wikipedia. It often has info on bands' equipment. I just had a quick look over Joan Jett's page and couldn't find anything but if you look hard enough it might be there.

She used to use an old version of the Gibson Melody Maker, I think... So far as amps are concerned... I don't frigging know, try any Marshall.
The rig:
Gibson SG faded special -> Marshall MG 50/100 (working on a valve amp)
Backup: Vintage AV1
