No it isn't worth the extra cash just replace the pickups and hardware on the epi and you will have an awesome guitar.
There are different pickups.
The sound is different but with some good pickups the epi will sound good.

gibson pickups are kinda over priced in my opinion... seymour duncan have an awesome variety...

but even if you update the tuners, pup new pickups in, change the bridge, a gibson will still most likely beat it. Gibsons uses superior wood choices. Something that you can't really change...

but then with that being sad you can still make an epiphone sound pretty damn good. Usually it goes that the majority of your tone comes from your amp, then from your pickups, and then from your guitars wood...

and of course you want them to have no hum in the sound... but that really comees down to how well your guitar is grounded... So what do you consider standard gibson pickups? A lot of their guitars have the 57 classics and classic pluses in them, which are a little more higher output.

And then a lot of them have 490's orr 498's...
