So far what do you guys think are the top 3 metal albums of 08? Do you think any still unreleased albums will make the list? Also, what was a disappointment in 08?

So far, i'd say, obZen (Meshuggah), Anthithesis (Origin) and Formation of Damnation (Testament) are the best. If Exodus does release a new album it will probably replace Testament. And my biggest disappointments are The Unspoken King (utter ****) and Till Death Do Us Prt (boring and uninspired).
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.

1. Opeth - Watershed
2. Prolly Ikuinen Kaamos' new album
3. Formation of Damnation

SO FAR.

In no real order:

1. "Board Up the House"- Genghis Tron
2. "Antithesis"- Origin
3. "Hesperus"- 5ive

I haven't heard A LOT of metal from this year, but those are my three favorites so far. Amazing stuff.

It is, IMO. I love the band. "Board Up the House" was the first album I've heard by them, and I need to check out their previous album.

But, yes, they're AMAZING, IMO.

Watershed - Opeth

That's really all I have from 08, but Watershed is amazing. Holy hell. Just phenomenal.

It is. Definitely.

Anyway, Ihsahn's "Angl", Dantalion's "Call of the Broken Souls", and Belphegor's "Bondage Goat Zombie" are my favorites so far.

That's a dumb question, you know everyone in here would buy it too. I know I would!

Opeth - Watershed takes the cake EASILY.

Opeth - Watershed
Agalloch - The White
Arsis - We Are The Nightmare

Honestly, I haven't listened to that many releases so far this year, but these are three that came to mind.

I'll have a bourbon.

So far?

Opeth - Watershed, by miles.

In a not so close second: Meshuggah - ObZen

My biggest disappointment? In Flames - A Lack of Purpose. I sincerely though they'd release some good material after Come Clarity (which I enjoy).

obZen for me, so far. Testament's is up there but it doesn't have that much of an oomph.

Perhaps Nostradamus will make its way up there when it's released.

damn, just remembered that too. Maybe ittl replace Anithesis, for me, but obZen is pretty much guaranteed a spot. and unless something amazing comes along, that spot is first.

1. Opeth- Watershed
2. Mirrorthrone- Gangrene
3. Pyramaze- Immortal

Honorable Mentions:

Arsis- We Are The Nightmare
Agalloch- The White
Origin- Antithesis
Meshuggah- obZen

Ikuinen Kaamos's new album, judging by the three myspace songs, will top all of these easily in my opinion.

Biggest Dissapointment:

A Sense of Purpose- In Flames. Quite possibly the biggest dissapointment I've ever experienced.

Morbosidad - Profana La Cruz Del Lazareno
Dead Congregation - Graves of Archangels

I've always found Origin pretty bland and boring lol. Maybe it's that they're definitive of a genre that I generally can't stand... but anyway lol. Needless to say I didn't bother with their new one

They basically ripped themselves off and watered it down a bit. I'm used to them ripping themselves off but geeze that new one is weak lol

I don't want to rank any, but I have high expectations for Immortal, Wintersun, Necrophagist, Cannibal Corpse and Gojira. Haven't really heard any great albums this year yet.
I'm a communist. Really.
#31
Raziel, you're set up for massive dissapointment... you don't really think new Immortal and CC will be good do you?

(I don't like Wintersun/Gojira and won't comment on them lol)

I hope so. I liked Kill very much, I liked Immortal's last few albums, and I liked "I", Abbath's side project, so I think it's possible.

I can't wait for Cannibal Corpses album.

I've listened to Necrodaemon Terrorsathan (which I quite enjoyed) and also their EPs (Bloodbath in Paradise and Obscure and Deep) and their Demo (Kruzifixion).

I have also heard various tracks of Lucifer Incestus, Pestapokalypse VI and Goatreich-Fleshcult. I like most of it, but they have their dodgy moments.
#34
Necrodaemon Terrorsathan, Lucifer Incestus and Goatreich are good. I haven't listened to Pestapokalypse enough to decide on it. Bloodbath is a great EP, as is Obscure and Deep, and I can't find Kruzifixion. Is that one they recorded as Betrayer?

I'd assume so, as it was their first recording.

I liked the Demo and lot more than the EP's, and all of their albums have equal worth to me.

I need to hear that demo but I can't find it lol
