what about that G chord ?

technically it sounds modal and would prolly be F# phrygian in concept.

even with a c# major that would just be a V which really just pulls to resolve to the root.

Ok I think the tab is wrong. In the video its:

F#min- C#min - A - G (1st 4 bars)

To me it sounds like F# minor, but with a borrowed chord for added color.
