get the mt-2 by boss, valo roads don't know what the hell he's talkin' about! I've been playin' guitar for almost 20 years and NO MATTER WHAT, the mt-2 has been a staple in my sound...and I got a label deal...so what's that tell ya?!

I've yet to try a really good distortion pedal. Most of them are pretty crappy compared to a real tube amp. The MT-2 is decent, considering its price, but I'd go for a new amp rather than a pedal.

That tells me that in your 20 years of guitar you didn't learn anything about tone, and in my 21 years, I did.

If you get the king you'll have gain on tap and will just need a driver

A Marshall MG amp with the MT-2 is the most BROOTALZ sound EVER for metal. Trust me, I'm in a band that plays metal and we play in big bars, clubs, and stuff.

Hey man, it's all subjective.... good tone for one person is not necessarily good tone for another... And just because you don't like the MT-2 doesn't mean that you know anything about tone either...

TS, personally I think the MT-2 is WAY to nasal sounding.. I've owned mine for 5 or 6 years now and it spent probably 2 1/2 in a shoe box because it was just way too hissy and nasally for me...

but, I bought a mod kit for like $20 and it's now one of my favorite pedals and a staple in my pedal board... It now has that edge and heaviness without the hiss and nasal aspect to the sound...

BUT even at that, I mainly use my amps gain channels for dirt and the MT for a little sonic variation...

Get a good amp with some nice gain first

I'm hearing a steady *thump thump* from the people above me and I need some porno grooves to play on my bass to give them some background music. Any ideas?

Yea definatly do an amp first. Trying to get serious tone out of a little 10w SS practice amp is not easy. A good amp then you can always try ODs till you find what you want. But I rarely use the tubescreamer I have in front of my amp. So may not need any pedals with a good amp.

I feel ya man, but I bought one and hate it, it sounds digital and false, and sucks true tone right out of the sound IMHO. I was ready to let it die there, with my original post but he attacked me, so I attacked back. Just because you have a label doesn't mean you sound good. Hell, Tom Delonge is millionaire and has ****ty tone! Your post was right, get a good amp. That guy just pissed me off by being a braggart. Sorry i went so far!

EDIT: mine's un modded
