Simple question this time xD.
I need an axe for Satch/Vai/instrumental rock/metal music.
Which wood would you prefer and why? (I've got 2 models to choose beetween:rg2620 which is basswood and rg3520z which is mahogany).
Apart from that I need a long sustain and somehow unusual sound which would sound clear and not very bright at the same time.
(This is seriously my last thread in electric guitar section about choosing my next axe.
Notice that there are only 2 candidates left. Not 17 xD)

Well, im gonna say the Mahogany. Mainly b/c its very warm, sustains well, and sounds really nice generally. The basswood is gonna dig easily, and is brighter than Mahogany.

If you're getting a guitar with a locking trem, then the body wood won't make a huge difference to sustain, as there isn't the kind of contact between bridge and body that you would get on a fixed-bridge and thru-body stringing config.

Satriani and Vai both use basswood guitars, and mainly get longer sustain with lots of volume, and a decent amount of gain.

Mahogony will be darker and richer sounding than basswood, but not by a huge amount.

well my teacher prefers mahagony. But i think basswood just have a nice cutting property. And properly more versatile, due to its transparency.

The main problem are the price tags: $1130 for RG2620 and roughly $1800 for RG3520Z.
I'm thinking wheather is it worth paying extra $670 for mahogany body and new trem.
BTW:How is this ZR compared to Edge Pro?

Plus basswood can vary since there's the high-grade stuff used for example in the Vai and Satch sigs and the low-grade stuff used in starter models.

EDIT: With that price tag difference I'd try to find some soundbites or videos then since there's no telling if the basswood one is high-grade or just gussied up. Same for the mahogany one.

Is basswood in RG2620 going to be noticably worse quality than Vai/Satch's one?

Here lays the problem:Ibanez RG3520Z is a new model from 2008.
It hasn't got any reviews let alone videos on youtube.
However it is slightly modified RG20071 which has got a few videos, but made on practise marshall amp, so it doesn't sound to good.

What do you think about it?
RG2620 has got a lot videos:
