So last night, I played for somewhere between 3 - 4 hours streight, and when I woke up this morning my entire left hand was stiff and numb, almost like it was asleep. I moved my fingers a bit and it went back to normal, but still a little stiff. No pain.

Is that unusual?

You just lay on it for a while and a nerve got a little squeezed. No big deal, happens to me all the time.

Btw, you're just asking for masturbation jokes.

When I woke up I was lying on my right side. Left hand.

So? You still can lie on your left hand then, unless your arms are shorter than 30 cm.

don't worry my hand always goes sore after playing my "guitar" for 3-4 hours straight

you'd think that you're ok, but you'd be wrong, in reality you have Lou Gehrig's Disease.

If it's not regular for you to play that much, that could contribute.

People also tend to fall alseep on their arms and all that (I'm one of them), so that could also add to it.

As long as it's not a constant thing, it's not much to concern yourself with.

Just because you woke up on your right side doesn't mean you slept like that. You might have rolled over just before you woke up. It probably doesn't have much if anything to do with playing guitar other than the fact that the stiffness might impair any attempts to play in the near future.

My hands do that all the time. It's just the circulation being cut off because of the way you're laying.

2 possibilities...

1) you slept on it, lol
2) early signs of carpal tunnel, if u feel pain or get the numbness while playing do yourself a favor and rest it for a few days

3) quit masturbating

Could be you've given yourself a case of arthritis. I did the same thing. But if it goes away within a week you're probably fine, if not just take it easy and pop some ibuprofen.

It sounds like you were sleping on your arm and cut off circulation.

while you were sleeping you got horny so your unconscious mind had you roll over on you hand so when you woke up you could give yourself a stranger. Why pass up an oppratunity to do that without the wait?

"LIKE" it was asleep.

I should clarify, in addition to being full-on numb when I wake up, it occasionally goes numb while I'm playing (mostly in the fingertips/mandibles). When I shake it out and relax it, the feeling usually goes away. It's just more pronounced when I first wake up.

Really, if it was somthing as simple as my sleeping on it, I woulden't be asking.

Sorry for not being clearer.

Edit- I've been playing between 3 - 12 hours a day for about 3 years now, this has only started recently. I generally average 4 - 6 hours a day, if you include band practice.
