Basically, what albums were hyped up / you were looking forward to, but turned out tripe?

I must say, "The Unspoken King" by Cryptopsy was horrid.

****Actually, it's like St. Anger - It's a great album for any other band, but for the band, it sucked hard.****

What album(s) disappointed you a lot?

*Awaiting A Sense of Purpose-haters*

The funny thing is that pretty much any of the bands I like released their latest album before I listened to them. Systematic Chaos is one of them that was released after I started liking DT, but it rocks!
"A war is coming, I've seen it in my dreams. Fires sweeping through the earth, bodies in the streets, cities turned to dust. Retaliation..."

Check out my amazing band!

Deathspell Omega - Fas: In Ite Maledicti, In Aegnum Aeturnum.

Its a great album, but I was expecting them to top Si Monumentus, Circumspice. Oh well.

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

I know that it's stereotypical to say St Anger, but I fricken brought that album like 2 days after it came out expecting to hear a great turn around in their sound. When you really anticipate, than buy an album it's a lot more disappointing than downloading it.

I really, really liked that album...

I disliked the new In Flames, but I didn't think it was going to be good after they released three straight stinkers.
TUK goes without saying
Machine Head's TTAOE was a return to boring form.
Elvenking's The Scythe was doomed from the start
Firewind's Allegiance
Black Tide
etc...

Slayer-God Hates Us All.

I'm sorry but I didn't expect Slayer to change their vocals and guitar tone to the point where they semi-resembled nu-metal on this record.

there are a lot of people who probably like this album... but I thought it was complete crap and regret buying it.

You're a monster, Vapor Trails is awesome.

To get onto the metal side of things, the new Cryptopsy of course was a huge punch in the face in terms of disappointment.

I could say St. Anger too, but I didn't like the last 3 albums before that anyways, so I wasn't expecting something fantastic.

The End of the Hour by Paths of Possession. I thought I would enjoy most of it after hearing the song Memory Burn, but the majority of the songs are ****ing terrible.

Elvenking - The Scythe.

While it is a GREAT album, compared to Wyrd and Heathenreel, ir is sheer facepalm worthy.

Also, controversially.

Opeth - Blackwater Park

People hype it WAY too much, it's a great album, but compared to Morningrise, MAYH, Still Life, and Watershed, it's not THAT good.

+1 to Elvenking. I liked Winter Wake more than the rest of their albums. In the Scythe they lost most of their defining "folkyness". Although I'd have to disagree with you slightly on Blackwater Park, personally, I really like that album.

Well, the production on BwP is the best part...

That's not a good thing.

And, yeah, EK probably won't be putting out another great power/folk album

Such a shame considering how good their first three albums were, but you can always hope.

To the guy above me, what is with this anti-Dragonforce bandwagon. I for one apreciate them from time to time even with their inability to perform live(alchahol before show )

Anywho, Ithyphallic by Nile didn't suck, but it was a disappointment, because i was expecting another ITDS, essentially, and they strayed from their Egyptian-flavoured music (the lyrics remained Egyptiany), and more towards a regular Death Metal approach.

And new Deicide ****ing sucks
