hey guys, haven't been here for a while so I'm not too sure where this would go. anyway i have a skit to do at school for Spanish class so i found it a good excuse to play some guitar at school. but i need to have a Spanish sounding piece; so what is a good chord progression/key to be in for Spanish/Latin-American sounding guitar?

Passive pickups? Are there such a thing as aggressive pickup s?

I use a Dvorak keyboard; put this in your sig if you do too.

I dont know any specific songs but try using the 2nd and 3rd fret of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd string. Has a spanishy sound to it (granted your using an acoustic or a clean channel).

So use 2nd and 3rd fret and then go up to the 5th and back down.

Kinda hard to explain but i dont feel like making a tab

Look up Mixolydian mode/scale. I think thats the spanish sounding one

A minor, E Major, A minor, E Major, D minor, A minor.

Or try substituting the D minor with an F Major.

Try it, it sounds great.

I think you're thinking of Phrygian.

Harmonic minor is also used a lot in Spanish music.

It may be the phrygian.

Edit: Just checked, you're right. It's phrygian. Thanks.

phrygian or phrygian dominant. myxolidian isn't spanish sounding.

theres different kinds of mexican music. one would be like happy mexican fiesta music, in which you would play something in a dorian key. for the old mexican desert music, you would use a harmonic minor scale

You're like my favorite right now.

And my band's name is, quite coincidentally, your username.

no i dont need o specific song, but good ones to get inspiration off of are appreciated; what i need to do though is come up with a spanishy tune to put a short (a little over a minute long) song into for a skit in spanish class

Like they said, improvise off the phrygian scale/mode.

Phrygian:
e-------------------------------
B-------------------------------
G-------------------------------
D--------------------------7--9
A--------------7--9--10-------
E--7--8--10-------------------
When all else fails, ask the pit.

Phrygian dominant/Harmonic minor are much better than just Phrygian, really. At least for flamenco.

malaguena is a classic mexican tune.

Isn't that a Tarrega piece?

Try indeed Tarrega (he is spanish lol).
And if you refer to that one, it is a tango, which isn't spanish, it is Rioplatense....
Try Asturias maybe, any other spanish classical guitarists....

The Phrygian is used in gypsy music (with some variant scale, the gypsy one I think), and if you want that, go find Django Reindhart...
