To be honest, Ive only ever heard this band once, on a college radio station... and it was unreal. Cant remember the song, but I gotta get some Pentagram cds.

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

Oh yes.

Yes indeed.

I could leave it at that, but hey.
Day of Reckoning is their creepiest album, but Pentagram (it is NOT called Relentless, as the idiots at Pissville would have us think) is heavier. Two of the best doom albums right there.

I sure hope that Bobby's health improves soon, so they can crack on with their next album, Last Rights of the Setting Sun....

Anyone with any interest in Pentagram, or indeed doom metal, should listen to Bedemon, the sister band of the 70's incarnation of Pentagram.

Man, just get the original Lps. Victor Griffins wicked guitar sound is so much more evil, whereas on the CD reissues it was dumbed down no end.

Bedemon is great too, like chylde says. The only mp3 stuff I've got of Pentagram is some rehearsals circa 71-74, I have a CD of their's somewhere though

I'm not too huge on metal these days, but "Day Of Reckoning" is still one of my favourite albums. Awesome band.

I hope it really hasn't taken you this long to realize that this forum is lacking in love for traditional doom.

I'd have a hard time choosing between Be Forewarned and Relentless for my favorite release, Bedemon are amazing (proto) doom as well.

No, I do indeed realize this, but seriously, 5 posts?

EDIT: the first two are my favorite.

i brought one of there cd's randomly (relentless) and i was very impressed, great album to chill out to

Day of Reckoning is one of my overall favorite doom albums and their masterpiece imho. When the Screams Come is definately my favorite song but that whole album is flawless besides the lackluster opening track.

And of course there's the S/T and Be Forewarned which is pretty solid.

I'm eventually gonna pick up some of their later albums as well.

Great band, and they put on an amazing live show

I actually haven't heard any of their later output, but I suspect it's ace. I can't even begin comprehending how amazing a live Pentagram show would be.

Some of the greatest Traditional Doom out there. Relentless, Be Forewarned, and Day of Reckoning are all classics of the genre. I might prefer Bedemon by a bit, but both bands kick so much ass, there is not much point in comparing. Did anyone else notice that a riff in some Iced Earth song (I don't remember which one) sounds almost exactly like the chorus of Ghoul?

Well look who decided to show...

and anyway, I personally do not listen to Iced Earth, so I can't help ya there. Wouldn't surprise me though.

Have you heard the Bullet for my Valentine Burzum - War riff steal?

At least Iced Earth are actually good.... I actually experienced the War riff steal first hand (sort of)... I was playing War, when some scene kid goes "Oh, is that *insert song here* by Bullet For My Valentine!?"

I can imagine that being a great show, save for the fact that newer Pentagram just doesn't do much for me. If they mostly stuck to the first three albums, that'd be one hell of a show.
