Yup - Just picked it up and I am very excited. Unfortunately I have to wait for someone to get home to help me lift the cab down 20 steps into the basement lol ><

I tried out every amp and "The Guitar Shop" and "L.A. Music" in Mississauga and decided on this one. Loved everything about that distortion since the first time I tried it. Not to mention the nice Fender cleans

I will record a video on the tube in a bit

Nice!! How does it compare to the Peavey 5150/6505's?

IMO it had much more gain then the Peavey 5150's/6505's that I tried while amp hunting. Also the gain while getting very dirty, doesn't get muddy at all

Not to mention the cleans - which are made by Fender sound amazing to the 6505/5150.

Peavey 6505/5150 still a great amp IMO however.

well its not exactly fender cleans, i was in the loud lounge at GC and i was playing a blues jam through that w. a guy on a princeton and you could tell which one was the princeton.

The 5150 III has was better cleans than any metal amp i have ever played and most other amps except some fenders.

Very nice amp! I hope my ability will one day be at a point to justify such nice gear .

I did a quick lookup to see how much that baby cost . $2K USD for the head alone! It will be awhile before I can justify that for sure lol.

I can't wait to hear your clips .

Yup, we need clips.
The EVH was like number 8 in my hunt for a new amp. It was slightly out of my budget, but it's a darn fine amp. Cleans weren't QUITE good enough for me. But... I need fender cleans or better.

Nice! The 5150 IIIs rape the old ones. I've been thinkin about trading in my Mark IV for one since I just can't seem to get the clean sound I want out of it and the 5150 III was the best amp I tried last time at Guitar Center, well besides the Diezel.

or if i can get one, a 5150 II

To me there pretty much a totally different amp. They have the same distortion qualitys but there voicing and response is pretty different. A good example is the JSX/XXX Vs the 6505, they have similiar characteristics but totally different. The 5150III its alot more responsive and crisp vs the 6505 is more raw(which is why most love the 6505).

Now that i think about it the 5150III sort of sounds like a fully modded 5150. From the clips i have heard. Its a pretty close comparison..

Well, I haven't played them both side-by-side, but I do remember that the Lead channel on the 5150 III was very well defined and picked up all the dynamics of my playing which I really liked. The Mark IV isn't quite as crisp sounding (imo). I'd probably say the Mark IV is the better one for metal rhythm and the 5150 III is more for leads; however, both are still great at the other. Most of the time I play rhythm, but I tend to like more of a lead sound to my playing, very well and defined and very articulate sounding, which is probably why I prefer the JSX over the regular 5150.

I would have guessed that the Mark IV would be better for leads. Is the lead channel on the 5150 III smoother than on the Mark IV?

Now I guess I have to go to Guitar Center and try it out.

Well, I'm not saying the Mark IV isn't good at lead, but the 5150 III is definitely a lead player's amp. I would say the Mark IV still has a smoother sound to it, but it doesn't quite have the definition and clarity the 5150 III does (imo). The 5150 III is closer to an SLO in which it shows a lot of flaws in your playing.

i'd also say that the Mark IV is a very compressed amp imo, while i'd imagine the 5150 III to be much more dynamic and "open" so to speak.

but, the mark iv's reaction to different guitars and pickups can make the amp sound very muddy (like my stock SG faded is extremely muddy while my stock ibanez s520 is very clear and defined)

i'd also guess that the 5150 III, like the 5150, gets way more saturated and grindy than a mark iv.

True, different pickups also change the sound a lot on the amp. It's an amp that needs to be driven by a good set of pickups to get a lot of gain, not something like the 5150 III which can be used with anything and has loads of gain.
