...music videos with bands that are using 3 bass drums?? i saw it on an A7X and an Atryeu video and i think one more......are they trying to be really hardcore or sumthing?? unless im missing sumthing here, they sold out a while ago and unless they've got an extra foot, two bass drums are more than enough for a song...

My bet would be it's just for show.

You know, to show how unimaginably "br00tal" and "gr1m" they are.

Penny for thought.

Lol at the replies so far...

I believe there is a reason (at least for having 2), something about a clearer tone/better sustain on each beat when double pedaling? I would ask a drummer.

the devil used a three bass set on beezleboss. each drum had a 6 on it.

On the contrary, his penis is so big he uses it to operate the middle kick pedal.

Mike Portnoy uses 3 at times because (I think) his kit is so big that with just two he wouldn't be able to play some hand drums (for lack of a technical term) along with bass drum stuff.

He also has OCD.

I think these bands do it because it's uber Hardcore or maybe they tune certain drums differently or something.

I think that is probably it, looking at this and the first 2 videos they all have ridiculously large kits that they have to rotate to play left side right side or middle.

They probably just have 3 kicks so they can play it when facing any direction... too hard to tell on crap youtube quality but I would guess they have multiple high hats for the same reason.

Only other thing I could think of is they might have them muted/stuffed/tuned differently and they use the different ones to get different tones.

The main reason I assume you don't see this more often is because most people aren't out buying 48 piece(or whatever) drum kits to play in their mama's garage

No, I have not noticed until now.

So that when you're playing on either side of the kit, you can still play double bass. A little pointless i believe unless you have a kit like Mike Portnoy or Neil Peart.
RÖCK ÖN!

The third/additional Bass drum(s) isnt usually the same size as the two of the other ones. What happens is that the kit(s) is/are( usually combined because the drummer likes all of the sounds he can produce for different song) so big that to use other drums ( congas, toms, cymbals, etc(aux percussion)) that they have to physically move to use them, meaning changing bass drums if they have to. this is also the reasons many drummers use different snares(tony royster jr), since they want different tones for their song. if your playing speed metal you want a clean double bass, but if its slow rock you want a deeper bass drum sound conpared to the other drum used for speed metal

True dat. I thought that, too. It's funny how the only bands that do that are actually the weakest, lamest and most mallcore of all. Hell, even Fall Out Boy put a double bass drum kit into one of their videos.

There's an obvious explanation for this: both of those bands put together gather more fail than the vietnam war, but no true fail-leader has yet been determined, so they try to one-up each others level of fail by increasing the number of useless crap on their drumsets.
#26
It's because the drummers have three legs. Duh, silly.
