I know, its a total noob question, but what does the number in the parentheses mean. This is out of The Ocean by Led Zeppelin.

I was under the impression that it meant it was a ghost note?

it can mean about 40 different things: ghost note, tied note, i've seen it used as various different harmonics, sometimes people use it for an enharmonic, or an optional note that doesn't need to be played. i've also seen it as a harmony part, for a 2nd guitar. in this case i think it just means hold the note.

either that or a ghost note...which means do not play it very loudly...almost like ur not playing that note at all...its weird...look to see what sounds right...they are almost complete opposites...
