Head and Cab for $130? You don't need a head and cabinet, you need a psychological examination.

just search used, you can find almost anything for a good price. when you find it, use the search bar, becuase i doubt seriously you will be the first one to ask a question about it. carvin, peavey, mesa, etc. the used market varies in price big time, you can find awesome stuff dirt cheap.

For metal and that low of a budget and if you have been reading the threads those are your only options.

New

Used
Peavey Ultra+ 120
Mark Iv if your lucky
5150
Used JSX or XXX

The ultra is by far the best bang for your buck, its the same circuit as the JSX and XXX and $250-$400 bucks

I don't think you're gonna find a mark iv, 5150, or jsx for $300

Thats a fair price if the head is in good condition, has the footswitch and all. Always good to try and haggle though.

As for the TS, the Randall RG50TC once you save up a bit more.

I'm pretty sure the JSX's Ultra channel is similar the XXX's Crunch channel. But then they separate cause the XXX has over the top gain and the JSX is supposed to have better cleans.
#22
i might just buy some tubescreamers or EQ first and see if it helps
im gonna get out of this thread too,im sure TS is rather annoyed with me by now

Not really honestly. That's pretty high, usually they go in the $1000-1200 range.

Mine's a '92 and it came with the head rackmounted in a 6-space rack case with brand new tubes for $1200.

My deepest apologies let me re-phrase it.. The XXX was based upon the the Ultra Plus and the JSX was based on the XXX. All Three have the exact same setup, channels, even channel names. Also when I played the JSX vs XXX vs Ultra to me they all three sounded the same. Now given i was playing the ULTRA channel 85% of the time because im a metal head. I have heard the JSX has better cleans. But last i knew we werent talking about cleans. So to my ears the ULTRA channel are pretty much the exact same. Hope that helps....
