two questions, actually.

ive been lookin' at a tube amp for a while now, and the Valve Junior seems to be alot of bang for the buck. Ive also seen countless mods on it. i want to know whether it would be worth modding.

what i want to know is:
1. the pros/cons of modding
2. how it sounds pre and post modding

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

Whenever I clean my guitars, my family wonders why it smells so good; I say that I exude a fresh citrus scent from hidden orifices.

Don't bump your thread after only 1/2 hour.
This isn't the Pit, or even EG or GG&A. Things happen more slowly here. Be patient.

That depends on your skills, interests, and expectations.

1. the pros/cons of modding
Pros:
You tailor the sound to something that closer fits your own personal tastes.
You add functionality such as tone controls, gain switches, etc.
Your amp can sound different than anything you can readily buy.

Cons:
You void your warranty.
It takes time.
It takes money. (although in most cases, not much.)
If you don't know what you're doing you can destroy your amp.
If you don't know what you're doing you can injure or even kill yourself. (High Voltages)

2. how it sounds pre and post modding
It's a 5 watt, Single-ended tube amp, and none of the mods you do will change that.
Stock, it's amazingly loud and has a great tone, considering the price. Most of the mods are geared around adding gain/crunch/tonal characteristics.

i modded my VJ straight after buying it (2nd hand though)

i am 35 and hadnt soldered since high school and it went well. just do it in stages and check it still works inbetween. keep your hands clean and only put one hand at a time inside the amp just incase.

go for it dude. at worst youll be £$100 down...
Thank you please.
