I wanna start listening to some classic thrash (Anthrax, Metallica, Testament, etc.) and take my music back to its roots. I need some inspriation for writing songs for my band.

Anyone got anything good?

You'll want to go further than thrash metal for the "roots"

But that aside, just google thrash metal, get a list together. then hit up sites like deezer and get your listen on

Venom is one of the forefathers of thrash and black metal. Metallica has also said that they had roots in the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, etc.)
Bands to see before I die:
Iron Maiden
Foo Fighters
Megadeth
Reel Big Fish
Rush
Streetlight Manifesto

Gear:
Epi LP Standard
Washburn Strat
Line 6 Spider (Yes, I know it's bad)

GAS:
Ibanez RG3570Z
Digitech Whammy

Google "Municipal Waste" and check out their myspace. Probably one of the coolest thrash bands I've ever heard.

You CAN play anything with anything....but some guitars sound right for some things, and not for others. Single coils sound retarded for metal, though those who are apeshit about harpsichord probably beg to differ.
