Are the strings "Ernie Ball Regular Slinky " (10, 13, 17, 26, 36, 46) good? I play metal (not too heavy like black/death/brutal, just melodic) and my guitar is tuned 1/2 step down (Eb).

ernie balls don't come packaged in an air tight atmosphere and don't tend to last as long as other brands.

personally i tend to avoid them - also what string gauge you use is personal preference (i find 10s are fine for Eb), some like em tight, some like em saggy.

I play GHS Boomers (Zakk Wylde Signature) .10-.60 for the heavy music, including dropped tunings because these strings snap back better at low tunings. For 'normal' music, or not-dropped tunings, I use Gibson Brite Wires .10
All those thick strings are a personal favour of mine, because I like it heavy :p

i prefer ernies to roto and various brands but its really just trial and error
