Check out the Alvarez Masterworks series, Guild GAD series, Epiphone Masterbilt series, and the Martin D-15 to start off with. Whatever you do, do not get an Ibanez.

Hmm, why not Ibanez? Thought they made good guitars.

If u have 900-1000$ to spend. DON'T go ibanez. Look into some other brands like: seagull, crafter, taylor, blueridge, martins, breedlove and alvarez. You won't be dissapointed.

They make excellent electric guitars, but the acoustics are mighty bad.

TS -- With your price range, you should be able to get something awesome. Cheers and Havoc gave some great suggestions -- try starting with those.

Here's an idea: play some. Go to the nearest store and start playing. Write down the ones you like best, go home, read as many reviews on them as you can, go back, play them again, make a decision.
Sincerely, Chad.

Personally I'll throw in a vote for the Guild GAD-F40, mine is absolutely fantastic. They make great guitars in that price range and a little lower, so check the company out.
#9
you can probably get a decent martin or taylor (the ones in the $500 range arent made of all real wood)

Larrivee's 3 series is also a good option.

But, as so many people already said, you need to go to a guitar shop to play as many models within your price range as possible.

Emphasis on this.

A $900 Alvarez is going to blow an Ibanez acoustic of ANY price out of the water, especially a $500 one.
Ibanez are notorious for bad quality control with their acoustic guitars. The most common issues are electronics that dont work and fretbuzz (and I don't just mean some buzzing on one fret, i mean extensive buzzing over the fretboard). For what you get theyre usually fairly pricey too, most of them are just dressed up with flamed or quilted laminate tops which don't actually sound good.

All the suggestion so far are good though. I'm rather fond of Breedloves too, so give them a try.

Everyone is new so don't worry about it. You may have found a good one. There are some that aren't all fancied up but they still tend to be a bit on the expensive side and you have to be wary of their quality.
It's not that all Ibanez's are bad (Generalising is a bad thing) just that in most cases they are bad and should be used as a benchmark of what isn't a good quality, value for money instrument. There are people who buy them and keep them for years and are happy, but still. Value for money and quality are the key terms here.

just walk into the store and try something out...its the best way to pick something YOU like yourself..

The thing is... Ofc it comes down to what you like the most in the end. BUT, if you buy a guitar which isn't made with as much accurateness and good materials that one will break in one or another way sooner or later. (Whether it's the wood that break or the sound)

Ok, firstly it's "AN" acoustic guitar. Sorry, that **** me heaps.

I just got a Fender Electro-Acoustic for 500$Aus and it's the most amazing guitar i've ever heard.

that, but right handed.

*Sigh* First you try to bury a guy for an innocuous typo, then you try to pass off an all-laminate guitar as the "most amazing guitar" you've ever heard?

No offense, but you need to play some better guitars out there, not to mention adjust your attitude a bit.

Hey Dude, look, that may not be the the guitar I have. It's true though, it is the most amazing guitar i've heard in my own personal opinion. Other people may disagree, i've played heaps of different guitars and it holds its own. Sorry if you think I came off as an ass. But mistakes like that **** me. It's not something i can control.

Let me see if I can find EXACTLY what guitar it is ok?

EDIT:

http://fender.com.au/acoustics/acousticelectric/dg14sce.php that one I think, it's 12am and my guitars in another room, i'll confim it later.

*Facepalm* You're not even sure of what guitar you have, and you want to cop that kind of attitude? Welcome to my ignore list.

Far out, i'm going to stop being defensive, you're coming off as a pretentious ass. Sorry for showing my face in this part of the forum, maybe i'll try and get your permission before trying next time.

Here's a clue: stop typing. Anyone will tell you that I'm the biggest grammar/style Nazi around here, but even I didn't touch this one. I'm the one correcting people on "an ukulele," but I had the sense to simply keep my mouth shut about a typo and try to offer something of value.

Enjoy your complete and utter failure. Even Keanu Reeves can't tolerate it:

Sincerely, Chad.

Posts 18 through 23 are completely unnecessary. I'm not going to warn any of you, but please try to keep it on topic.

Two tips:

1. Grammatical errors happen. That's why people proofread formal works. Forum posts are far from a formal work, so please don't get y'all's panties in a bunch over stupid little mistakes.

2. If you don't know something about a topic or are unsure of the information you are giving, you are much better off to just not say anything at all. This prevents a lot of problems and disputes.

I know I've already quoted this but I really feel the need to quote it again.
The general consensus around here is that they are crap. I have yet to play one that is worth the fairly high prices they are asking for (price is relative of course. They are cheap compared to Martins and Taylors but in terms of what your getting the usually belong in a much lower price category to what you have to pay for them) and the same goes for Fender acoustics. I wouldn't quite put them in the same category as the Ibanez's but they're still not great value guitars. I have heard/seen no issues of quality control and the prices are generally reasonable, just they don't sound very good IMO.

I also wouldn't go for a Taylor in this price range.

Other than that, go have a play.
