i didnt see it, but if it looked like a synth, but he wore it as a guitar, then its exactly what it looks like: a synth that you can wear like a guitar. i'm not aware of any specific name they're given. if its not that tho... no idea

Nah I caught that and it looked as though it had strings around the bridge and buttons low down the neck, really strange.
It might be similar to that thing the guy from Sinch played (or still plays, who knows?) that controlled the lighting, but it did look like he was playing some of the music with it. Really have no idea what it was though, probably their own creation. If you find out be sure to post it because it would be nice to know.

Its a Starr Labs Ztar 65 - With slight modification ( a wireless feature allowing rob to send, revieve and process midi data directly back and forth the onstage sequencers and the 13 onstage computers) It also has an updated sound card. And custom made for Rob( He has 3 in grey, black and white) , The cables that can be seen trailling from the guitar are for backup power and sound modification via a EQ deck. Rob can also "program" the Ztar to do anything from controlling lighting to changing the effect on his microphone (this is usually assigned to the buttons on the body of the Ztar . And is very well demonstrated in this video - http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PeihKlRJccQ

I play one of these as well. Been using the Ztar since 2007. Been playing MIDI guitar since 1984.

You can see me demonstrate mine (Ztar Z7s) in this video:

I use mine quite a lot with the Air Power Wireless System.
Mine does have string triggers, breath control, neck strip (Vibrato & pitch bender),
Volume pot, ribbon controller, etc.

Dear Ztar and Pendulum Fans,

Yes, a MIDI Guitar can sound like a guitar, not just a synthesizer.

The Les Fradkin Liberty Video is out!!
The sound is a shred guitar sample with feedback on aftertouch:

Have fun checking it out!

Les Fradkin - Liberty
Les Fradkin, from the Original Cast of Beatlemania, presents "Liberty" from his "One Link Between Them" CD.

This is a cover of the Steve Vai classic guitar instrumental "Liberty" which was originally recorded by Steve Vai on his "Passion & Warfare" album. In this video, Les Fradkin is playing the Starr Labs Ztar MIDI Guitar in his Neo Classical Bach influenced style - two handed tapping of the famous Steve Vai composition with a shred guitar sample with feedback that has to be heard and seen to be believed! Perfectly in sync with 4th of July fireworks.

This video clip was recorded LIVE on July 4, 2008 at Rhyolite National Park in Castle Rock, Colorado at
Les' July 4th live concert.

MIDI Guitar.... as you've never seen it before!

The MIDI guitar that Rob Swire of Pendulum uses is a Ztar Z6-SP. It is in the price range of $2200-2900. These MIDI guitars cannot be found in the UK and are quite rare. Visit the Star Labs website for more information and to browse their different models and prices of the guitars.
