so right now i have a strat that is routed for HSS if i switched pickgaurds, is it possible to make it an SSS?

Your strat is probably routed for HSH, but by changing the pickguard you could put threee singles in it.
It might take a little bit of routing, but very minimal should do the trick, just some routing and a pickguard fit for SSS

and yeaits what hawk said you can coil tap a humbucker all u want but u still wont get a real single coil sound
you can split the humbucker so you can change to HB tone if you want
