What bands do you know of whose guitarist is so good that you can listen to him/her for hours on end and never get tired of it?

James Malone (Arsis)
Mike Mackenzie (The Red Chord)

that's it.

How about you?

I can only think of 2 guitarists who I don't get bored of every now and again and neither of them belong in this forum. Most metal guitarists bore me after a certain amount of time but in some cases it's dramatically longer than others. Jeff Loomis and Chris Broderick are among the longest ones along with Paul Masvidal.

Karl Sanders - Nile
Nergal - Apostasy
Ghallagher (sp?) - Dying Fetus
fredrik/Martin - Meshuggah
Gary Holt - Exodus

i just took this as a favorite guitarist thread, cause i'm not really sure what else the "...hours on end" could mean.
The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.

There aren't many guitarists who will never cease to amaze me.

Ihsahn, however, is one of them. Both of the guitarists in Sikth are amazing too.

Mikael Akerfeldt and Peter Lindgren mended together so seamlessly, it's what made 8 Opeth albums shine in brilliance.

How could I forget him?! Santiago, to me, always seems to be coming up with fresh and interesting sounding licks without ever making it look difficult and it always sounds good and musical within the song along with the blinding technicality.

As cliche'd as it is. Dream Theater is always going to win this for me. If I want to be impressed with the guitar playing on an album, i'll just listen to Petrucci.

But I don't really listen to albums to be impressed by the musicianship.

Trey is all about feel not tech. What he does is just really original with all the original phrasing's and use of odd tapping, articulation and effects in his solos. But nothing he does is "technical" so to say, more so just creative.

Last time i check wailing on the whammy and shredding like a madman isn't really considered technical by most. When i think of technical guitarists the ones who come to mind are more along the lines of, John Petrucci,Chris Broderick,Micheal Romeo,Daniel Mongrain ect. And believe me I'm not saying this in a bad way as he's my favorite guitarist of all time.

Wow...you are fail.

Just because someone manages to actually feel what they're playing doesn't mean it's not technical; Trey is an intensely technical player.

Well what defines technicality?, if it's creativity within phrasing alongside of distinguished techniques while putting it all together into a perfect flow and tearing everyones face of with it then i could agree with you. Most people look at technicality as just simple "oh well he's faster and uses more notes and arpeggios that are harder to do",ect that kinda rubbish".He is an excellent guitar player believe me, but by most "technical" guitar kid he does not get much credit. Theres allot faster, cleaner, more complex guitar players and those are the guitarists who get deemed "technical".

There's your answer; even you deem him technical, you just didn't want to admit it.
