they have it in blue also, but it has a standard floyd Rose tremolo, is that going to bother me, this being my first guitar?

It's not a good guitar for a beginner, the Floyd Rose will give you nothing but trouble if you don't know how to set it up.

alright I assumed that was going to happen. But the red one doesn't have a tremolo.

The one you were looking at was a Kirk Hammett signature, and I don't think they come in red.

Is there anything particular you want in a guitar? How about your price range?

I must have posted the wrong link or something, this is the guitar I was looking at.

http://www.samash.com/catalog/showitem.asp?ItemPos=12&TempID=3&DepartmentID=1&STRID=22240&CategorySubID=681&CategoryID=681&BrandID=1345&CategorySubPriceRangeID=0&pagesize=10&SortMethod=2&Method=3&PriceRangeID=0&SearchPhrase=&Contains=&Search_Type=Department&GroupCode=&categorysubsearch=true

my range is 200-300

Yeah, that's a decent starter guitar. What you want to do is avoid guitars that are made of agathis, as they have terrible tone.

Here are some other options you should consider.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-RG321-Electric-Guitar?sku=512492 (I'd recommend this one as it has a mahogany body which will give it a heavier, crunchier sound)

Colgate is right, the RG 321 is a great starter guitar, and mahogony is a great wood, and with 25.5 scale detuning is great. If you listen to pretty heavy stuff that comes in handy.

I also like that guitar. Make sure you get one with good active pick ups if u like metal, if not you might want to consider some passive ones. Also make sure you are getting good wood. Those are two things to take into consideration.
