Okay, so I have played bass for about 3-4 years now. I still feel that I have a lot to learn, but I want to pick up guitar this summer since I'll have a little extra time.

As I'm looking for a guitar to purchase, I'm thinking about getting a used one. That way I may get a higher quality guitar for the money, it just might have a few dents and need some adjustments.

My questions are as follows.

Where should I look for used instruments? Are pawn shops a good idea?

What specific things do I need to look for or check on when purchasing a used instrument?

I probably wouldn't go to a pawn shop to buy a guitar. But that's just speaking from my own experiences looking at various guitars and instruments at the local shop in town.

A guitar shop?

I wouldn't buy online, you should really test it and see if it's any good/how bad the damage is. I bought one online and it had more damage than they said, however, they did fix it (fret damage, not just paintwork).
