they don't make a lot of high gain amps under 20 watts.
why can't it be more?

because i want to be able to turn it up hi really push the tubes and i cant do that where i live unless it is under 20 watts maybe 30 watts max unless there is an attenuator that you can use without moding the amp

60 watts is even minimally louder than 20
20 watts will still probably be too loud to crank
10 watts is half as loud as 100 watts.

besides, most high gain amps get almot all the gain from the preamp tubes, so you can still get a good tone at low volumes anyways.
so if you like an amp, don't disregard it because it has high wattage.
just think of it as more headroom.

Just get an attenuator then.
I don't think there are all that many high gain tube amps under 20 watts.

then could you recommend me an attenuator, and an amp which fits my specs for under $500

I would go for something like this:

A buddy of mine has one, you can use the built in attenuator to drive the tube and still have a decent volume (you can plug in headphones too), and it has a bunch of different styles (clean to high gain) for you to choose from and they all seemed to sound pretty nice. You definitely get that saturated tube sound out of it because it has a tube in it, I was really surprised cause I usually am not a fan of modelling amps. They even throw a few effects on there as well. I'm actually thinking of getting one of these to practice on myself. You can definitely pick one up for under 500, and still have enough cash left over to get yourself a nice heavy distortion pedal if you think you need it.

Krank Rev Jr is the only thing that comes to mind that fits the criteria, but it's not under $500. Maybe used?

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.
