i belive the differance is in the type of pickups the use.i could be wrong though seeing as i dont play bass much anymore .

One's a Jazz, the other's a Precision. All the usual differences are there, the Jazz is lighter, the Precision has a fatter neck, etc.

jazz has a narrower neck and 2 pickups

walks all over the precision IMO

so you are saying that Jazz basses are superior to P basses?

In my opinion yes.

nope nope nope

sound wise, basically different pick ups

Jazz bases aren't necessarily superior because it depends what type of music you want to play

I've tried both of them

I noted that the P bass is just your basic Bass with no gadgets or fancy wirings

but the jazz bass has two pickups and has more sounds, and can even mimic the P bass sound very well.

Am i correct?

basic bass as in a very sturdy and stable and all rounded.

You could say that about the Jazz too though.

Basically:

- The Precision has one split-coil pickup, the Jazz has two single coils

- The Precision has a wider nut width

- The Jazz has an "offset waist" so it balances slightly better

- The Precision has a lot of punch to its sound whereas the Jazz has more bite

It really is all personal preference, I'm a Precision man myself, I find they sit much better in a band mix and are more comfortable to play but again, that's my opinion so you need to decide for yourself which one you prefer!

The P has a 1.625" nut width and the J has a 1.5" nut width, it's not much but you can feel the difference.

String spacing is a little different and just the whole feel of the neck. I bet you could feel the difference, it doesn't look like much at all but it feels like a big change.
