Combinations of notes played together to achieve a certain tone that can be consolidated into an umbrella letter for recognition.

You should learn them all, eventually. Start with basic ones first, like

E, F, G, A, B, C, D.

Minors, majors and 7ths usually just mean you're putting a finger in a different place while the rest is similiar if not the same. You can worry about that once you get the whole chords down.
Do you feel warm within your cage?

And have you figured out yet -

what is the chord f#minor11 anybody?

The correct classical spelling would be this: F# A C# E G# B
On guitar you'd probably play: F# A E B
