wah pedal or multi fx pedal...

all i have fx wise is a zoom multi-fx, brilliantly useful for college, but i don't use fx that often for my band. I prefer just plugging into the amp for all out rock personally.

Multi Effects pedals are pretty cool if you don't know much about effects... You get a lot of 1st hand education at what they do and how they work....

I'm not big into multieffects units myself due to the sound of them, but they will give you a lot to play with and experiment with..

And they can help you determine what you'll want to add to your rig should you ever put one together..

Here is an idea...download the demo of guitar rig 3. It has many different effects, amps...etc. You can play around and get an idea of what sounds good to you...and the demo is FREE!

Also, there are some preset effects (such as david gilmore solo's, etc.) and you can see what effects NI used to capture that particular sound. This is a great package and did I say FREE to try out?

I am not trying to suggest to anyone that GR3 is perfect...but it is a great way to get (at least) an idea of what effects are to your liking.

Multi-effects are a great choice, but make sure that what ever you get you'll be happy with two years later. My first was a Digitech RP80 multi-effects. Then I got 535q crybaby. ^this a great thing to mess around with for hours.
