No - I don't know how you pronounce "****"
the breakdown in the Dark Eternal Night by Dream Theater.

there are probably better, but that one comes to mind. Do to it's sheer ridiculous randomness.

A nervous one.
How about a Communication Breakdown?

Good song. Yay for the 80's!
80s? Communication Breakdown was released in 1969...unless you're thinking of something else
i dont know what song
but it was like

actually... now that i think about it
that was a terrible song
Vikings? What Vikings? We are but poor, simple farmers. The village was burning when we got here, and the people must have slain themselves.
How about:

But I still stand by the yay for the 80s comment

I agree, Nervous Breakdown is pretty awesome.
I'm the same as I was when I was six years old
And oh my god I feel so damn old
I don't really feel anything
I thought it was Full CHAMBER Roulette.

Anywho, I'm gonna say at the end of Our Own Grave by All Shall Perish, simply because I can't think of any other good ones off the top of my head.

Actually, change that to Infecting the Crypts (the first breakdown) by Suffocation. It is not opinion, this is simply the greatest breakdown ever. It's a FACT.
the ones in BTBAM's

Sun of Nothing
Ants of the Sky
Prelude to the Sequel

they seem so out of place... yet so perfect
Domination - Pantera (of course)
Start Today - Gorilla Biscuits (true hardcore breakdown)
Claustrophobia - Six Feet Under (gotta love those splash cymbals)
Mississippi Queen - W.A.S.P.'s version (awesome cowbell break)
One - Metallica (double bass drums at their best)

Forgive me for being a n00b, but what is a breakdown?

chug chug chug, chug chug chug, chug chug chug, chug chu chug, chu chu chug, chu chu chug, chug chug chug

How exactly do you define "breakdown" in musical terms?

errr part of the song at like half tempo, and play really low notes/pchords with lots of dist?

I got powers like spiderman did, except I model everyone else's powers poorly.

Quote by shredhead22
why not, i started using the zakk wylde boomers and now every third note i hit is a pinch harmonic

Breakdowns don't have to be chug-chug. It just happens that those are the most popular and distinct ones so that's why everyone associates the two. Any part of the song played at a much lower tempo as sort of a "bridge" or "filler" can be considered a breakdown. Breakdowns often lead into a much different style in the song as well.

basilica by jawbreaker...

the last line of the record is the narrarator asking his gf to marry him

and then there's this tension/release/tension/release guitar bit for like the next two minutes, followed by 30 seconds of ****ing loud, really dissonant static.

i think they just recorded every chord they knew over each other over and over and over again until they got this big black painful grungy wall of noise. it kicks ass.
